It’s Time To Accept That Teen Titans Go Is Going To Be DC’s Longest Ever Show Forever

Teen Titans Go! debuted in 2013, about ten years after its predecessor, Teen Titans, hit the small screen. The cartoon is a comedic take on the DC superhero team of the same name, which includes Robin, Starfire, Raven, Cyborg, and Beast Boy. It shares the same voice cast as the 2003 Teen Titans, though it is fundamentally different from the series that came before in both visuals and writing style.
11 years after it premiered, Teen Titans Go! is still going strong on Cartoon Network. Per President of Cartoon Network Studios Sam Register, the comedy has "no end in sight," even after eight seasons and a theatrical film. Now sitting at 397 episodes, Teen Titans Go! is DC"s longest-running series by a mile. With such a high episode count and production still ongoing, the controversial hit is likely to hang onto that crown indefinitely.
It's Unlikely Another DC Show Will Have As Many Episodes As Teen Titans Go! Teen Titans Go! Will Reach 400 Episodes Soon Close With almost 400 episodes, Teen Titans Go! easily outnumbers the episode count of every previous DC series. Of note, that includes the live-action television shows. Smallville is the closest contender to Teen Titans Go!, with an impressive 217 episodes. Even so, that number is just barely over half the episode count of the cartoon. The only other shows with anywhere near that number of episodes are, unsurprisingly, Arrow and The Flash, with 170 and 184 episodes respectively.

To put the massive episode count of Teen Titans Go! in perspective, Batman: The Animated Series has 85 episodes, and the original Teen Titans only has 65. Both of those DC series were fan favorites and have a strong legacy in their fan communities, but they each have less than a fourth of the episodes that Teen Titans Go! does. Given the latter is still running with no plans to slow down, it would be virtually impossible for another DC series to overtake its episode count.
Why Teen Titans Go! Has So Many Episodes The Format of Teen Titans Go! Makes It Easy To Produce Teen Titans Go! has hundreds of episodes more than most other DC series for a simple reason: its format is conducive to producing a lot of episodes. While that explanation sounds simple, it makes perfect sense. Teen Titans Go! episodes have 11-minute run times with few serialized storylines, so producing 8 seasons of content is less work for the writing and animation teams. As a result, the series can more easily put out short, comedic stories without concern for continuity or ongoing arcs.
Season 8 of Teen Titans Go! has been ongoing since 2022.
Aside from being easy to create, Teen Titans Go! is popular. Though it received a mixed reception among fans of the 2003 Teen Titans, the series found an audience among children. This popularity led to the release of a theatrical film, Teen Titans Go! To The Movies, which made back five times its production budget and received positive critic reviews. When factoring in those successes, it makes sense that Cartoon Network would want to keep investing in Teen Titans Go!.
Teen Titans Go! Having So Many Episodes Is A Good Thing, Despite Its Divisive Reception The Popularity Of Teen Titans Go! Is Good For DC While Teen Titans Go! doesn"t hit for every audience, its success is good for the DC brand. The series may be irreverent and over-reliant on gross-out humor, but it also provides two key benefits to DC. Firstly, it is commercially successful, which helps bolster DC animation as a whole. Secondly, a whole new generation of fans is introduced to superheroes through Teen Titans Go!. Silly or not, the cartoon exposes young viewers to DC characters, and for some, it may even make lifelong fans of the Teen Titans.
