Deadpool & Wolverine"s 10 Best Cameos, Ranked

Deadpool & Wolverine delivered plenty of action and humor, but perhaps its most memorable feature was the wealth of cameos from Marvel and beyond. Given Deadpool"s fourth-wall-breaking antics and Wolverine"s long history in the X-Men universe, many expected some major surprises, and the movie didn’t disappoint. Deadpool & Wolverine was filled with Easter eggs and references, including numerous familiar faces. From throwbacks to classic Marvel characters to appearances by actors tied to these two anti-heroes, Deadpool & Wolverine gave audiences numerous memorable cameos that celebrate superhero cinema.
Deadpool & Wolverine marked the official conclusion of Fox’s X-Men timeline and transitioned the eponymous heroes into the MCU timeline. The movie celebrates the early era of comic book movies, referencing numerous aspects of Fox’s Marvel universe. One of the main ways this is achieved is through its litany of cameo appearances from celebrated superhero movie actors.
10 Blake Lively As Ladypool Ryan Reynolds' Wife Close One of the most debated and somewhat expected cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine was Blake Lively appearing as Ladypool. While Lively is better known for her work in Gossip Girl and A Simple Favor, her connection to Deadpool made her a prime candidate - she"s married to Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds. Ladypool, a female variant of Deadpool, appears in the thrilling Deadpool army scene in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Ladypool originally appeared in Deadpool Corps #1 (2010) as part of the multiversal Deadpool team. Her cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine is short, with her identity being kept hidden by her mask. Nevertheless, her brief appearance in the trailer led to fervent speculation online. Lively’s involvement wasn’t confirmed until after the movie"s release, and it was perfect because Lively and Reynolds have a very jovial relationship, frequently barbing each other on social media. As Ryan Reynolds infused a lot of his own personality into his performance, Lively’s casting as his female counterpart was very fitting.
9 Jon Favreau As Happy Hogan Originally From Iron Man Close Jon Favreau, the actor-director responsible for kicking off the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Iron Man (2008), makes a surprise appearance as Happy Hogan. Favreau’s cameo comes early in the movie, during a scene where Deadpool is applying to become an Avenger. His deadpan delivery and interactions with Deadpool’s toned down civilian identity was a hilarious dynamic.
Happy Hogan originally appeared in the comics as Tony Stark"s bodyguard, and Favreau first portrayed him in Iron Man. Favreau appeared as Happy in each of the Iron Man trilogy, as well as Tom Holland’s Spider-Man trilogy, and Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. His appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine bridges the X-Men universe with one of the MCU’s early architects. Favreau’s return as Happy Hogan was a welcome nod to the larger Marvel world, and his comedic chemistry with Reynolds was perfect for the tone of the film.
8 Aaron Stanford As Pyro Originally From X2: X-Men United Close Aaron Stanford reprised his role as Pyro, the fiery mutant who appeared in the original X-Men trilogy. In Deadpool & Wolverine, Pyro appeared in the Void, working for Cassandra Nova and memorably saps Johnny Storm’s flames. Pyro has long been one of the more intriguing members of the X-Men movies, starting as a student at Xavier"s school before turning rogue and joining Magneto’s Brotherhood.
Compared to other X-Men characters, Pyro seems like quite a minor player, but has one of the most compelling arcs in the original trilogy. In Deadpool & Wolverine, Stanford’s brief return to the character gives viewers a nostalgic callback to the early X-Men films while showcasing Pyro"s aggressive powers. His fiery abilities are impressively rendered, and his dynamic with Wolverine, who shares a history with Pyro, adds depth to the scene.
7 Tyler Mane As Sabretooth Originally From X-Men (2000) Close Tyler Mane, who portrayed Sabretooth in X-Men (2000), makes a surprising return in Deadpool & Wolverine. Sabretooth also appears in the void, where Deadpool and Wolverine are ambushed by several mutants. Sabretooth"s rivalry with Wolverine comes to the forefront, with the two exchanging brutal blows in an intense fight scene reminiscent of their early X-Men clashes.
Tyler Mane’s portrayal of the character in the original X-Men film was imposing and memorable - certainly more iconic than his depiction in the prequel, X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Bringing Mane back for Deadpool & Wolverine brought Fox’s X-Men universe full circle. Mane’s cameo was too short, but it was fun because it finally gave Mane the chance for a rematch with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. Their rivalry was key to Wolverine’s character, making it a great way to celebrate Jackman’s tenure.
6 Dafne Keen As X-23 Originally From Logan Close Dafne Keen’s return as X-23, Logan’s cloned daughter from Logan (2017), was one of the most anticipated cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine. X-23 appears in a handful of scenes, but most memorably, during the final act of the movie, where she faces off against Juggernaut in the Void. Keen brings the same ferocity and emotional depth to the role that made her debut so unforgettable in *Logan*.
X-23, or Laura Kinney, first appeared in X-Men: Evolution before making her comic debut in 2004. Keen’s portrayal of X-23 has been widely praised, and her brief return in Deadpool & Wolverine adds emotional weight to the story. The father-daughter-like bond between Wolverine and X-23 is further explored in their few scenes together. Keen’s cameo helps ground the movie emotionally, while also delivering some of the best action sequences in the film.
5 Channing Tatum As Gambit From Several Failed Movie Attempts Close After years of rumors and near-misses, Channing Tatum finally makes his debut as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine. Tatum’s Gambit appears as part of the heroic resistance in the Void, aiding Deadpool and Wolverine in their siege on Cassandra Nova’s base. This cameo was notable because of the many, grueling, years that Tatum petitioned for a solo Gambit movie in which he would play the Ragin’ Cajun. Unfortunately, unlike Reynolds and Deadpool, it was never made.
Gambit has been a fan favorite ever since he first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #266 (1990). His underwhelming appearance in X-Men Origin: Wolverine seemingly killed any hopes that he would appear in another movie. Deadpool & Wolverine satisfied both audiences and Tatum, offering a Gambit in a highly comic-accurate costume and a dynamic application of his iconic powers. While not perfect, Gambit’s appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine teased the possibility of future involvement in the MCU.
4 Jennifer Garner As Elektra Originally From Daredevil Close Jennifer Garner’s return as Elektra in Deadpool & Wolverine was one of the few explicitly announced before the movie. This led many to assume she might have a larger role in the movie, but instead only appeared in a few scenes as part of the resistance in the Void. Nevertheless, Garner’s cameo was thrilling, bringing her signature martial arts skills and deadly precision to the table, holding her own alongside the two superpowered anti-heroes.
Garner’s Elektra was last seen in the widely derided Elektra (2005), but originated in the slightly more favored Daredevil. As one of the most intriguing and iconic Marvel characters, it was satisfying seeing Garner redeem her rocky history with the character. Her cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine is short, but it’s action-packed, with Garner proving she can still handle the role’s physical demands.
3 Wesley Snipes As Blade Originally From The Blade Trilogy Close Wesley Snipes’ cameo as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine was one of the most surprising. The reason for this is two-fold. Firstly, Snipes gave a very convincing denial when asked if he would appear. Secondly, there were reports that Snipes and Reynolds feuded on the set of Blade Trinity. The pair claim these reports were exaggerated, but likely stemmed from the fact that both actors infuse so much of themselves into their performances, and their characters were supposed to dislike each other.
This blurring of reality was entreatingly lampooned in Deadpool & Wolverine when Deadpool quips that Blade never liked him anyway. The famed Marvel vampire has been a staple for decades, with the MCU releasing its own solo Blade movie. Yet Snipes persists and the most quintessential performance and his cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine only proved why.
2 Henry Cavill Frequently Fan-Casted As Wolverine Close One of the most satisfying cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine managed to appease a long-requested fan-casting, Henry Cavill as Wolverine. Early in Deadpool & Wolverine, Wade Wilson is hopping through universes in search for a Wolverine variant. In one universe, he stumbles into a garage where Henry Cavill"s Wolverine is chomping on a cigar.
It was very pleasing to see Cavill finally assume the role after years of viewer speculation. The cameo was also notable for Deadpool"s hilarious quips about DC, even going so far as to suggest that Cavill should join Marvel more permanently because they would treat him better. Henry Cavill"s Deadpool & Wolverine cameo was a delightful surprise during the Wolverine variant scene, and proved precisely why Cavill has been repeatedly suggested for the role for the MCU"s X-Men.
1 Chris Evans As Johnny Storm Originally From Fantastic Four Close The best cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine was Chris Evans" return as the Fantastic Four"s Human Torch - Johnny Storm. Johnny Storm appears early in the movie as one of the first people Deadpool and Wolverine encounter in the Void. He receives an especially memorable death at the hands of Cassandra Nova, and appears in the incredibly entertaining post-credits sequence. Chris Evans" Human Torch was a vital part of the early Marvel movies, and was a perfect choice to help celebrate the era.
Chris Evans" Deadpool & Wolverine cameo worked for numerous reasons, partly because it set up the idea that Evans would be playing Captain America, and then delivered a surprise reveal. Another major highlight was seeing Johnny"s expletive-laden rant after years of seeing Evans playing upstanding and respectable superheroes. Instead, Evans" cameo was silly and mature, making it perfect for those in the Deadpool & Wolverine audience who grew up watching Fantastic Four.
