Wonder Woman Prequel Show Gets A Big Update From James Gunn After 3 Months

The DC Universe TV show Paradise Lost, set to be the first project related to Wonder Woman from DC Studios, gets an update from James Gunn. With several DC Universe Chapter 1: "Gods and Monsters" movies and TV shows in the works, there are still a few projects that haven"t progressed as far as others have since the initial January 2023 announcement. One of them is Paradise Lost, set to be a Wonder Woman prequel show taking place years before Diana"s birth.
As Gunn was asked by a fan over on Threads what he is up to this weekend, he added that he was not only working on Superman, Creature Commandos, and Peacemaker but also reading "some scripts I haven"t gotten to." In a follow-up response from another user who asked if there was any progress on the Wonder Woman series, Paradise Lost, and if there were any drafts being sent in for the show, Gunn said, "Yes." Check out the full exchange below:
Back in July 2024, Gunn was asked if Paradise Lost was still in production, to which he stated "Nothing is “in production” unless it’s been greenlit." Gunn also added that "Paradise Lost like many other titles known and unknown is still in very active development - it will be in production once we have a script or scripts we think are great and ready to shoot, never before. As an aside, we aren’t officially cast on anything that isn’t greenlit."
What James Gunn's Paradise Lost Comments Mean For The Wonder Woman Prequel Close As Gunn confirms that Paradise Lost is still in the works, it means that DC Studios has not abandoned the project and is just taking its time to craft the show from the ground up. It"s still unclear what writers he has been meeting with for the Wonder Woman prequel show since no talent has been publicly announced for Paradise Lost. It may be a matter of them wanting to see which writers" vision fits Paradise Lost before they are tapped as the creator/showrunner.
It is possible that the reason they are taking a bit longer with Paradise Lost is because they are retooling it as an HBO Original rather than only being released on Max. This is what happened with the upcoming Lanterns TV show and The Penguin, as the latter is now airing on HBO, while the former was formally greenlit to air on the popular cable network in the future. Since Paradise Lost is Game of Thrones-inspired, the quality definitely has to be as strong as possible.
Our Take On James Gunn's Paradise Lost Comments With the concept behind Paradise Lost, it will be fascinating to see what creative team is behind the show as it will set the foundation for a lot of key elements for Wonder Woman. It also begs the question when there will be any addressing of Wonder Woman in the present DC Universe timeline as it"s unknown what is going on with Diana at this point. Hopefully, more news on Paradise Lost will arrive later this year, as it will ideally get closer to getting picked up to series.
