The Batman Spinoff Gets Disappointing Yet Understandable Update

Summary
  • The release of The Penguin TV show, a spinoff of The Batman, has been delayed to Fall 2024 due to strikes, but no specific date has been announced yet.
  • The show will pick up one week after the ending of The Batman, exploring Oswald's role in the criminal underworld as Batman poses a bigger threat to villains in Gotham City.
  • The Penguin will introduce new characters such as Sofia Falcone, and there are rumors that Robert Pattinson's Batman may make an appearance.
The fleshing out of The Batman universe will happen later than expected since the upcoming DC show, The Penguin, is targeting a new release window on Max. Matt Reeves is just getting started with his DC franchise as multiple The Batman spinoff projects are in the works. One of them is Max's The Penguin, featuring Colin Farrell once again as Oswald Cobblepot, making the first time the character is headlining his own TV show.
During a recent event to promote their plans for 2024, Max content boss Casey Bloys revealed that The Penguin (via @Megsokay) will be coming out in Fall 2024. The plan was to initially release The Penguin during the spring, but in light of the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Max is pushing back the series premiere.
While they are targeting The Penguin for Fall 2024, no specific date was revealed, which makes sense as they will likely announce an actual release date with the next trailer. Production had started on The Penguin season 1 before filming got suspended when the strikes went into effect, and it is unclear how many episodes of the upcoming Batman-related show are left to shoot at this point.
