Star Trek: Lower Decks' Jack Quaid shares his hilarious behind-the-scenes memories of playing live-action Ensign Brad Boimler in the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds crossover episode, including posing as "Captain Boimler" sitting in the USS Enterprise's Captain's chair. The SAG-AFTRA strike began in July just before Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 7, "Those Old Scientists", dropped on Paramount+. The actors hitting the picket lines meant they were all forbidden from publicly discussing struck work, which was especially painful for Lower Decks' Jack Quaid and Tawny Newsome, who couldn't share their delight at being on set with the cast of Strange New Worlds.

The title of the Strange New Worlds crossover, "Those Old Scientists." is an in-joke from Star Trek: Lower Decks season 1 that "TOS" means "Those Old Scientists" and not Star Trek: "The Original Series."
