Star Trek Brings Back a Classic DS9 Ship to Fight the God War

Warning: contains spoilers for Star Trek #8!Star Trek has brought back a classic Deep Space Nine ship to fight in the god war. The clone emperor Kahless is waging war on the godlike beings of the Star Trek universe, and it has fallen on Captain Sisko and the crew of the Theseus to stop him. When the ship needs to get into an area of space unpassable to conventional starships in Star Trek #8, the crew creates a propulsion system that should be familiar to fans of Deep Space Nine.
The issue is written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, drawn by Mike Feehan, colored by Lee Loughridge and lettered by Clayton Cowles. Sisko is currently being held prisoner on Cardassia, to stand trial for his crimes during the Dominion War. Meanwhile, the crew of the USS Theseus are searching for the Bajoran Orb of Destruction, which they believe is integral to Kahless’ genocidal quest. They learn the Orb is possibly being stored in a Cardassian facility deep in the Tong Beak, an area of space impassable to conventional starships. As the crew rack their brains to find a way to get in, Jake Sisko makes a suggestion: he tells T’Lir, Shaxs, Tom Paris and the rest that he and his dad once built a solar ship, using solar sails designed by the ancient Bajorans. These ships do not need conventional warp drive to move, making them perfect to take into the Tong Beak.
Star Trek's Theseus Flies on Solar Sails The solar sails the crew of the Theseus erect should look familiar to longtime fans of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. In the third season episode "Explorers," Sisko returns from Bajor with a grand idea: to rebuild the solar sailing ships of the ancient Bajorans. These ships, using sails designed to catch solar wind, allowed the ancient Bajorans to explore space. Sisko saw it as an opportunity to bond with his son, and together they built the ship - and managed to sail it all the way to Cardassia. Now, with the god war raging across the galaxy, the solar sails have made a return, and may be able to turn the tide of the war.
