Star Wars Dodged A Bullet: Latest Rumors Suggest Lindelof Would Have Repeated Sequel Mistakes

It seems Lucasfilm might have dodged a bullet with Damon Lindelof's recent Star Wars exit. Originally slated to pen the script for Star Wars' upcoming movie focused on the New Jedi Order and the return as Rey Skywalker, it seems as though Lindelof's original concepts would have risked repeating similar problems from the sequel trilogy. As such, perhaps it's for the best that the upcoming movie from director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is headed in a different direction.
As reported by Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic podcast, it's been rumored that the Star Wars script Lindelof gave to Lucasfilm would have featured an elderly Rey with two apprentices 60 years after the sequels. This conflicts with Star Wars Celebration 2023 which confirmed the New Jedi Order movie will instead take place only 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker. With Lindelof having excited the project just before the convention, it seems he and Lucasfilm quickly chose to part ways. Ultimately, this initial concept would have likely created a handful of issues, risking similar controversies Lucasfilm faced with the sequel trilogy.
