12 Harsh Realities Of Rewatching The Arrowverse

Summary
  • Superman's Tyler Hoechlin was often overshadowed before his own series, but Superman & Lois showcases his exciting portrayal.
  • The Flash suffered from repetitive storytelling, with Barry relying on Team Flash for pep talks and victories, making the show less interesting.
  • The Arrowverse set up the Suicide Squad on Arrow, but ultimately squandered their potential, leading to disappointment for fans.
Rewatching the Arrowverse now that it has ended should make some harsh realities evident for fans of the shared DC Universe on TV. Having started with 2012's Arrow — which named the DC TV universe — the Arrowverse began to grow with the addition of several new series over the years. DC's Arrowverse shows include Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, and Batwoman. Having six main series in the Arrowverse — with two animated series of shorts and the adjacent Superman & Lois — the DC TV universe possesses a great number of episodes spread out across dozens of seasons.
Grant Gustin's The Flash season 9 ended both his time as Barry Allen and the Arrowverse as a whole in May, as Superman & Lois takes place at a different Earth. With the Arrowverse now concluded and all the DCEU movies following suit with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom's release this December, fans will have to wait until James Gunn's DCU releases to follow a live-action shared DC universe again. That wait is perfect for a rewatch of the Arrowverse, but while there's plenty of excitement to be found in the DC shows, some negative aspects should become more evident upon a repeated viewing.
