George Lucas" Reaction To Rogue One Revealed By Writer

George Lucas' reaction to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has finally been revealed thanks to one of the writers. Although director Gareth Edwards had previously shared his enthusiasm over Lucas' reaction to the film, no concrete answer was ever given until now. Lucas has largely avoided sharing his opinion on the Disney Star Wars movies, with his only comment on Star Wars: The Last Jedi describing it as "beautifully made." However, Lucas has shared his general disappointment with some of Disney's creative choices, such as their decision to discard his treatments for the sequel trilogy.
Speaking with Pete Hammond on the Deadline video series Behind the Lens, Tony Gilroy recalled his conversation with Lucas after Star Wars' creator had seen Rogue One.
"George Lucas called me after Rogue, I had a 45-minute conversation with him after he saw Rogue, and that's the only time I've ever spoken to him. He loved it. He really did. He had a lot of things to say that I... It was like a call from the president."
While Gilroy didn't share any of Lucas' specific comments, this does confirm how much Lucas enjoyed Rogue One. Gilroy describing it as "a call from the president" is a perfect analogy, as any Star Wars writer would cherish a stamp of approval from the maker himself.
