Star Trek: Sisko Changes His Future by Admitting His Biggest Mistake

As Star Trek’s god war rages, Captain Sisko has permanently changed his future by admitting his biggest mistake. In IDW Publishing’s flagship Star Trek title, the clone Emperor Kahless is leading a genocidal campaign against the godlike beings of the galaxy and while the galaxy burns, Sisko is also struggling to reconnect with his son. In issue six, he admits he was wrong to leave his family, totally changing what fans expected for his future.
When Kahless awakens the God City of T'Kon and sets it on a collision course with Earth, Sisko and his team - including his son Jake - are stranded aboard. Sisko believes it is over, and that he has failed in his mission to stop Kahless. He apologizes to Jake. Confused, Jake asks what he means. Sisko tells him he tried to live two lives - as both a human and the Emissary of the Prophets, but he failed. He expresses remorse for missing his daughter’s birth and his father’s death. Jake tries to assure him he could not fight the Prophets, but Sisko tells him he could have, but chose not to. Sisko believes he was wrong to do this and tells Jake he will never do it again. The issue is written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, drawn by Ramon Rosanas, colored by Lee Loughridge and lettered by Clayton Cowles.
Sisko Is Done Putting the Prophets Before His Family Sisko’s actions in this issue pick up an important plot point from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. When Sisko first arrived at the station, and Bajor, he was revealed to be the Emissary of the Prophets: non-corporeal, non-linear beings who live in the nearby wormhole. For seven seasons, Sisko struggled with this role, but at the end of the show, the Prophets called him to them, and he stayed with them until the onset of the god war. Sent by the Prophets to discover the culprit, Sisko has a new ship, the Theseus and a new crew. His son Jake has tagged along, and Captain Sisko has spent the mission attempting to reconnect. Now, Sisko has at last come to terms with this, and it sets the stage for his future.
