So, Is The DC Universe Done With The Suicide Squad?

The DC Universe already has a long list of projects for the next couple of years, but one of the biggest absences in the list is the Suicide Squad – so, is the DC Universe done with this team of villains and antiheroes? When the DC Extended Universe was starting, it had a dark tone with hints of comedy here and there, and it explored the stories of a variety of characters, such as the Suicide Squad. This peculiar team is formed by different criminals who, in exchange for reduced sentences, agree to go on dangerous black ops missions, hence the name “Suicide Squad”.
The team made their big screen debut in 2016 in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, as part of the DCEU. The original team was formed by Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Killer Croc, Slipknot, Katana, Rick Flag, and El Diablo, though not all of them made it to the end of the movie. Due to the underperformance of Suicide Squad, it wasn’t until 2021 that a standalone sequel, titled The Suicide Squad and directed by James Gunn, was released, and it was a critical and commercial success, leaving the door wide open for the team’s return… but the restructuring of the DC Universe seems to have forgotten about the Suicide Squad, thought it might have its replacement ready to go. So, what’s the future of the Suicide Squad in the DC Universe?
