Agatha All Along Stars Introduce MCU"s Newest Coven Of Witches

Marvel Cinematic Universe actors Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, and Debra Jo Rupp preview the new journey with Agatha All Along. One of the concepts that has gotten a bigger spotlight in the MCU timeline since The Multiverse Saga began is the supernatural realm, with magic, sorcerers, and witches being more crucial to the franchise than ever. That will be reflected heavily in the next MCU TV show, which is Agatha All Along, premiering later this month.
Following her introduction to the MCU audience through WandaVision, Kathryn Hahn is back as Agatha Harkness, now serving as the lead in the Agatha All Along cast. Taking place after her showdown with Scarlet Witch, Agatha manages to get free from Wanda's spell, as she begins a new quest: to walk the Witches' Road. However, the Marvel witch will not be alone, as Agatha is putting together a new coven of witches that will join her on this journey.
Screen Rant recently spoke with Zamata, Ali Ahn, and Rupp to promote the Agatha All Along release on Disney+ to tease their involvement in Agatha's new coven. Throughout the interview, the MCU trio breaks down who each of their characters is and how they have their own respective relationship with Agatha. The stars also gush about their fun experiences with the costumes that will be featured in Agatha All Along, and the clues that are part of their wardrobe.
Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn & Debra Jo Rupp On Coven Of Chaos In Agatha All Along Close Screen Rant: I love this show. I've been saying it reminds me of Hocus Pocus mixed with the Wizard of Oz, with a dash of comedy, a little bit of horror, and the musical element just jumps out of you all wrapped in an MCU tortilla. This show really pays homage to witches, witches throughout history, whether it be from film or television. Tell me a little bit about each of your characters, and what their specialty is in, I guess, witchcraft. I guess your character is a little different [in reference to Sharon Davis]

Debra Jo Rupp: Sharon is a bit special! [laughs]
Sasheer Zamata: I play Jennifer Kale and she's a potions witch, so she uses her environment and things around her to create magic.
Ali Ahn: I play Alice Wu-Gulliver and she is actually a protection witch, but she's also a blood witch, which means she's descended from a witch, but her power is in protecting people and she's discovering her power as she goes.

The Character Evolution Of Sharon Davis After WandaVision In Agatha All Along

Debra, after being involved in WandaVision, what can you tease about your character's evolution since the last time we saw her?

Debra Jo Rupp: Well, her husband has died, and she lives next door to Agatha, poor, sad Agatha, who's a little nuts, so we tolerate her in the town, and then she gets invited to a very fascinating party.

The Coven Members' Respective Dynamic With Agatha Harkness & Costume Adventures "Agatha is very sad, and she's kind of crazy, and we kind of tolerate her."

Agatha is the driving force of this show, and each of your characters have a different relationship with her. Can you talk about how your characters perceive Agatha before they get on the Witches' Road?

Sasheer Zamata: Agatha has a really bad reputation amongst witches and has for centuries. The Jen character and Agatha, I think, have, like, a contentious relationship, but there's also a respect there. So it makes it for a very fun love-hate situation that we have in our scenes.
Ali Ahn: I think that everyone knows who Agatha is, as Sasheer said, but I think the difference with Alice is that she's really hiding from being a witch. She's sort of disconnected with that part of herself and I think Agatha coming to find her is genuinely surprising. She's been trying to disappear from that world.
Debra Jo Rupp: Agatha is very sad, and she's kind of crazy, and we kind of tolerate her. She's kind of boring, and we do our best with her!

Once we get to some of these haunted house episodes, I feel peak American Horror Story vibes, and there's a lot of wardrobe changes. Which wardrobe was your favorite, and do those costumes have clues for how the series plays out?

Sasheer Zamata: There are actually a ton of clues in the costumes. I feel like Daniel Selon, who designed the costumes, really did make a point to include things about our characters in the costume, and then they evolve when we go from different genre to different genre [to] a different time period. It's cool to see everyone's character in a different type of costume that's like the one that they wear on the [Witches'] Road.

Which was your favorite?

Sasheer Zamata: I have this beautiful pink dress...
Debra Jo Rupp: [Laughs] She loves to talk about her pink dress. She's amazing in that pink dress!
Ali Ahn: I loved the 70s outfits, that was fun!

Agatha All Along Actors Hope For More Journey On The Witches' Road

Throughout this journey on the Witches' Road, what are your characters hoping to discover about themselves in this journey?

Debra Jo Rupp: I'm hoping to make a friend. That's what I'm hoping for.
Sasheer Zamata: I mean maybe deep down, we're all kind of trying to make a friend!
Ali Ahn: Yeah, just trying to reconnect with the thing you lost, whatever that is. I think they're trying to get in touch with themselves in a way.

Aubrey Plaza's MCU Debut In Agatha All Along Is One To Watch "I think we're all sort of both intrigued and repulsed by her at the same time."

Another new character that we have introduced in the MCU is Rio, played by Aubrey Plaza. She's absolutely phenomenal in the show. How do your characters view Rio as she's introduced to the covenant?

Sasheer Zamata: She's scary!
Ali Ahn: I think she brings an unpredictable quality that Aubrey is so great at, and I think we're all sort of both intrigued and repulsed by her at the same time. That tension is always fun to play.

Kathryn Hahn kills it, she is absolutely incredible in this show, as are you guys. Can you talk about your experience working with Kathryn on this show?

Sasheer Zamata: It was great to see her so committed to this character. She really brings a nuance to it. It's not just like a villain role, she's also someone you want to root for.
Ali Ahn: When someone commits that deeply to something, everyone has to bring their A-game to the table, and it just set a tone that I think was really powerful.
