  • WandaVision season 2 is unlikely due to recent plot developments in the MCU and home release titles implying future seasons for other shows, but not WandaVision.

The latest update regarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe's TV releases may have confirmed a disappointing reality for WandaVision season 2. Since the ending of WandaVision's story in 2021, a prevalent piece of discourse surrounding the MCU has been whether a second season would ever be greenlit. Despite Marvel's upcoming TV shows seemingly committing to longer, more frequent seasons in an attempt to overhaul the studio's small-screen productions, WandaVision was constructed when limited series' were commonplace for the MCU.
Related Marvel Resetting MCU TV Process After A String Of 4 BTS Fiascos A recent report has indicated a massive shake-up of Marvel Studios TV formula is coming after several disappointing MCU TV shows have been released. Therefore, it has long seemed unlikely that a continuation of WandaVision would ever happen. This reality has since been made more likely by subsequent MCU stories concerning the character of Scarlet Witch, driven home by her unlikeliness to appear in upcoming MCU movies. Furthermore, it was announced in March 2024 that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Moon Knight will be released on Blu-ray and 4K UHD. While these releases may seem far removed from Wanda’s story and any continuations, one small detail about each one seemingly hammers the final nail in the coffin regarding WandaVision's season 2 hopes.
WandaVision WandaVision, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first TV show on Disney+, first aired in 2021. The series kicked off the MCU’s Phase 4 and brought back Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch, and Paul Bettany as Vision. WandaVision strayed away from Marvel’s typical formula, this time formatting itself more like a classic sitcom as Wanda struggles to cope with the death of Vision.
Cast Paul Bettany , Elizabeth Olsen , Kathryn Hahn , Teyonah Parris , Randall Park , Kat Dennings , Debra Jo Rupp , Evan Peters Seasons 1 Streaming Service(s) Disney+ Marvel's Latest Home Release Updates Make WandaVision Season 2 Less Likely Recent Marvel updates seemingly confirm continuations of other MCU TV shows - but not WandaVision. Upon the announcement of Moon Knight and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier getting home releases, both were titled "The Complete First Season" as reported by Variety. Interestingly, this wording implies that the possibility of a second season for both shows is likely, something that audiences will appreciate given they are often considered two of the best-ranked MCU TV shows. While this implication itself is exciting, it unfortunately bodes ill for WandaVision, a TV show that received its own similar home release in 2023.
When WandaVision's home release was announced, the official title was listed as "WandaVision: The Complete Series." Unlike Moon Knight, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki season 1 back in 2023, WandaVision is seemingly being confined to one season. The defining of WandaVision's initial nine-episode run as a "Complete Series" leaves little room for season 2 to be announced, making a continuation of the show even less likely than it was previously.
Why WandaVision Season 2 Is Currently Impossible Recent events in the MCU have made Wanda's return overwhelmingly unlikely. Regardless of the titles given to various home releases attached to the MCU, the recent installments of the franchise itself mean WandaVision season 2 is impossible from a storytelling standpoint. Wanda Maximoff's next appearance after WandaVision came in 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This film saw Wanda turn into a multiversal antagonist, scouring endless universes for her children who were lost during the events of the TV show.
At the end of Doctor Strange 2, Wanda seemingly shakes herself out of her stupor by scaring her children once reaching versions of them from an alternate universe. This helps Wanda see the error of her ways, after which she uses her powers to destroy the Darkhold - the book of the damned - and herself. In 2023, Marvel Studios released a book titled "The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline" which confirmed that Wanda was killed in the explosion, despite theories that she survived the ending of the film.
While Vision's story was compelling, Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff was the star of the show...
As evident by the show's title, Wanda was an incredibly vital part of WandaVision. While Vision's story was compelling, Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff was the star of the show which carried on her story into the next phase of the MCU. As such, it would be incredibly difficult to justify WandaVision season 2 without Wanda herself.
How WandaVision Season 2 Is Happening Elsewhere In The MCU The story of WandaVision will continue in other facets of Marvel Studios' universe. Close While Wanda's death and the finality of Marvel's home releases confirm that WandaVision season 2 will not happen, the show's legacy will live on in the MCU's other stories. At the end of WandaVision, White Vision had regular Vision's memories implanted into him. Seemingly restored to his old self, Vision flew away and is yet to be seen again in the MCU. That said, an upcoming TV show focusing on Vision after the events of WandaVision will be released: Vision Quest.
Tommy and Billy, Wanda's children, could also return as members of the MCU's Young Avengers, further continuing the show's legacy.
Related Why WandaVision Season 2 Will Happen (Just Not How You Think) WandaVision is still one of Marvel's best Disney+ series but hasn't been renewed for Season 2, which may take a surprising form. Not only will Vision's WandaVision story be continued in the MCU via another show, but so too will Agatha Harkness'. Harkness was the primary antagonist of WandaVision who was trapped in the town of West View at the end of the show. Despite this, Agatha will return in 2024's Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. Like Vision Quest, this show will act as a spiritual successor to WandaVision, helping to continue the story of the beloved show regardless of whether an official second season will be placed into production by Marvel Studios.
