Wait, Is [SPOILER] Really Dead After Venom: The Last Dance?!

The flagship franchise of Sony"s Spider-Man Universe comes to an end with Venom: The Last Dance, and it goes out with a major Marvel character death that makes the conclusion even more poignant. In the run-up to the release of Venom 3, star Tom Hardy has been transparent that the movie definitively concludes the story of Eddie Brock and Venom. However, at New York Comic Con last weekend, writer-director Kelly Marcel teased that there were more stories to be told with the symbiotes in this universe, so there"s seemingly more to come.
That said, Hardy"s comments about Venom: The Last Dance and much of the marketing material released by Sony have hinted that either Eddie Brock or Venom will die in the movie. Considering Hardy"s Venom is far and above the most beloved character in the Sony Spider-Man Universe movies, it would be a major loss for the franchise, though not necessarily one they can"t recover from. Now that the film is playing in theaters, we break down the major character death in Venom: The Last Dance, and what it means for the future of Sony"s Marvel universe.
Venom's Ending In Venom: The Last Dance Explained The Battle Against Knull's Xenophages Ends In Tragedy Close At the end of Venom: The Last Dance, when things aren"t looking good for Eddie and Venom against the army of Xenophages sent to Earth by Knull to capture the Codex, the symbiote makes a decision. Venom decides to sacrifice himself, taking down as many Xenophages as possible, and destroying the Codex by dying. It"s a massively important moment in the movie, since it"s what finally turns the tide and allows Earth to win the battle against Knull"s forces.
The result is that Venom dies to save Eddie and save the world from Knull"s wrath, since Knull planned to decimate the planet where the symbiotes sought refuge. The Codex was the only key to Knull"s prison, and since Venom died, it no longer exists. Of course, as Knull says in the Venom: The Last Dance credits scene, he"s awakened and still plans to go after Earth once he gains his freedom. But, for now, Venom"s sacrifice has protected the entire world.

2 Although the ending of Venom: The Last Dance features a lot of deaths, Venom dying is the most heartbreaking. Hardy has played Eddie and voiced Venom in three solo movies, and in a post-credits scene featured in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Although Venom 3 may be a satisfying conclusion to the characters" stories, it"s no less tragic to see the symbiote give up his life, and his dream to see the Statue of Liberty, to save his best friend. Still, it may not be the last we see of Venom.
Why There's Still Hope For Venom To Return The Symbiote Could Return Even Without Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock Close Venom"s main form was destroyed alongside the Xenophages, but bits of his symbiote remain elsewhere across the multiverse. There"s the bit of symbiote Venom left in the MCU in the No Way Home credits scene, as well as the bit collected by Rex Strickland in his home universe. It"s unclear what happened to either piece of Venom, but they could lead to either the symbiote"s return or to another symbiote being spawned. This means Venom could return in both or either universe.
Venom bonds with a number of other hosts in the comics, including Peter Parker, Anne Weying, Deadpool, Flash Thompson and Eddie"s son, Dylan Brock.
Of course, whether that actually happens remains to be seen. Sony has been tight-lipped about their plans for their Spider-Man Universe after the release of Kraven the Hunter in December, likely because it would be a spoiler for Venom"s death in The Last Dance. Now that the movie has been released, hopefully the studio will reveal what they have planned for Knull and the rest of the symbiotes. If nothing else, Venom: The Last Dance certainly concluded Tom Hardy"s Marvel trilogy on an epic note with the death of Venom.
