10 Villains Perfect For Marvel"s Rumored Midnight Sons Team

Summary
  • The MCU is set up perfectly to introduce the Marvel Midnight Sons team.
  • Villains like Mephisto and Dracula would be perfect for MCU's Midnight Sons.
  • Lilith could be the MCU Midnight Sons' best villain.
Marvel has the makings of an MCU version of the Midnight Sons, and like any superhero team, they will need a powerful villain to face off against. The Midnight Sons are Marvel's team of supernatural heroes. Characters like Blade, Doctor Strange, and Moon Knight have all been members of the team in the comics, as have Jack Russell, Man-Thing, and Elsa Bloodstone from the Werewolf by Night cast. Though the team could technically go up against any kind of villain, it would make most sense if it was also one of Marvel's supernatural characters.
Marvel's supernatural characters tend to be pretty powerful, thanks to their ability to wield magic. This means a villain would have to be pretty powerful to go up against a team full of them. Some supernatural villains have already appeared, mainly in the Doctor Strange movies. While others haven't shown up yet, they have been hinted at with the inclusion of objects like the Darkhold. The upcoming Disney+ series Agatha is also a good place where Marvel could introduce a new supernatural threat to the MCU.

He likes to manipulate people and offer deals that always work out better for him in the end. Mephisto is very much a schemer, and would be a good main antagonist for a team like the Midnight Sons, as he has a lot of resources at his disposal. This would give the team challenges to get past before they could reach him.
Although there is no official announcement of Mephisto appearing in the MCU just yet, there are rumors that he's already been cast. Sacha Baron Cohen is currently slated to play an unnamed role in the upcoming Ironheart show, and many believe that he will be playing Mephisto. Baron Cohen's past work makes it clear he could capture Mephisto's mischievous nature. If the rumors are true, it would be nice to see him stick around for a bigger project like a possible Midnight Sons movie.
9 Dormammu Has Already Appeared In The MCU Dormammu Is Played By Benedict Cumberbatch In The MCU Close Doctor Strange already introduced a pretty good antagonist to pit against the Midnight Sons: Dormammu. Though he was defeated temporarily by Doctor Strange, Dormammu is still out there, and likely wouldn't mind a second shot at merging the Dark Dimension with Earth, especially now that Strange no longer has the Time Stone. Dormammu's return was also seemingly already teased in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
In the post-credits scene of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Clea arrives and asks Doctor Strange to help her save her dimension. Clea is Dormammu's niece who resides in the Dark Dimension, so it seems very likely whatever threat she is facing is related to him. Strange and Clea could easily be the founding members of the Midnight Sons in the MCU and assemble them to help fight Dormammu.
8 Blackheart Could Be A Good Precursor To Mephisto Blackheart First Appeared In Daredevil #270 (1989) It's hard to say how much, if any, attention the Midnight Sons will get in the MCU. However, if Marvel decides they want several projects following the team, they may want to start out with a smaller scale villain. Blackheart, the son Mephisto created out of pure evil, would be perfect for this. Blackheart would help MCU viewers learn about Mephisto's realm, and hint at the bigger villain lurking in the background, while still posing a good threat to the Midnight Sons.
Blackheart has similar abilities and goals to his father, and has often worked with Mephisto to torment heroes. A version of Blackheart previously appeared in Ghost Rider, though he didn't bear much resemblance to his comic book counterpart. The MCU would give Marvel a second chance to get this villain right, and Blackheart would be a good tease for things to come with Mephisto.
7 Nicholas Scratch Is Agatha's Evil Son Nicholas Scratch First Appeared In Fantastic Four #185 (1977) Though Agatha Harkness appears young in the MCU, she is actually hundreds of years old. In the comics, Agatha is the leader of a magical community called New Salem, and she has a son named Nicholas Scratch. Scratch has attempted to take control of New Salem before and turned them against his mother, bringing him into conflict with Agatha and The Fantastic Four. This kind of story might work well with how Marvel likes to do team-up movies, and has an easy way of being introduced to the MCU.
Typically, in Avengers movies, Marvel pits the team of heroes against a villain that has a lot of underlings to throw at them as cannon fodder. If the MCU wanted to make Scratch and the citizens of New Salem the antagonists, this would give the Midnight Sons plenty of magic users to fight off in a climactic battle. Scratch could also easily be hinted at in a post-credits teaser in the upcoming Agatha series. This would help set up his connection to her, and establish a threat the Midnight Sons could assemble to face.
6 Baron Mordo Is Still Out There Somewhere Baron Mordo Is Played By Chiwetel Ejiofor In The MCU Close Mordo was set up as a possible antagonist in the MCU back in Doctor Strange. Since then, Strange's rival sorcerer hasn't really been seen. Although he did appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it was an alternate reality version of the character. This means the main MCU continuity still has a Mordo in it, and he is likely still trying to rid the world of sorcerers as seen in the final moments of Doctor Strange.
Mordo's end-credits teaser remains one of the longer running plot threads that the MCU has left dangling. Having him return as the main antagonist for the Midnight Sons would be a good way to bring back his story, instead of making it feel completely forgotten like it does now. Since he already has conflict with Doctor Strange, there's an easy way to pit him against the team if Strange ends up being a member.
5 Dracula Would Give Blade A Reason To Form The Team Dracula First Appeared In Suspense #7 (1950) Close Based on Bram Stoker's legendary monster, Dracula is easily one of the most powerful vampires in Marvel Comics. Dracula is another character that would be the perfect type of villain for a team-up project, because he has many followers at his disposal. This not only explains why a team would be needed to defeat him, but can also set up exciting action scenes where the Midnight Sons take on hordes of vampires.
Dracula also makes sense as a way to get Blade interested in possibly forming the Midnight Sons. As a vampire hunter, Blade would likely stay up to date on Dracula's plans, and if he needs assistance stopping them, then forming a team seems like a logical move. The MCU already established Blade is keeping tabs on other supernatural heroes through Eternals' post-credits teaser featuring Dane Whitman aka Black Knight.
4 Morgan Le Fay Is Connected To The Darkhold Morgan Le Fay First Appeared In Black Knight #1 (1955) Similar to other Marvel characters like Thor and Dracula, Morgan le Fay isn't a Marvel original, but an adaptation. Morgan le Fey originally appeared in Marvel's Black Knight series, which was inspired by Arthurian legend. Since then, however, she has grown into a unique Marvel villain, and a very powerful one at that, thanks to her half-faerie lineage.
Morgan le Fay has challenged the Avengers several times in Marvel Comics, so she is definitely a threat that it would take a full team to address. The Midnight Sons could also have a connection to Arthurian legend if the team includes Black Knight. Morgan le Fey was previously played by Elizabeth Hurley in Marvel's Runaways, though the series likely isn't MCU canon since it was removed from Disney+. Still, Hurley could reprise her role, or the MCU could cast a new version of Morgan le Fey to go up against the Midnight Sons.
3 Amora The Enchantress Could Fill Loki's Shoes Amora First Appeared In Journey Into Mystery #103 (1964) Loki isn't the only powerfully magical Asgardian in Marvel's rogues gallery. Amora the Enchantress has spent much of her very long life studying magic in Marvel Comics and has proven to be a major threat. Similar to Loki, she's cunning and good at getting people to do what she wants. This version of the Enchantress would be more than a match for the Midnight Sons, and could even possibly turn some of them against one another, leading to some awesome fight scenes between the team's heroes.
Although Amora hasn't appeared in the MCU, Marvel does already have a version of the Enchantress, as Sylvie from Loki is a mixture of Amora and the Sylvie of Marvel Comics. Though the MCU's Sylvie is more heroic, and distinctly different from her comic book inspirations, she may still make Marvel hesitant about including Amora in the MCU. Marvel's Midnight Sons adaptation would have to make sure to make her very different from Sylvie to make Amora work.
2 Nightmare Has Ties To Several MCU Characters Nightmare First Appeared In Strange Tales #110 (1963) Nightmare, as his name implies, comes from Marvel's Dream Realm. He rules over the realm, and can use its power to absorb energy from anyone who is asleep. In a way, he is essentially the evil version of Neil Gaiman's Dream from DC Comics. Not only does Nightmare fit the bill for a supernatural villain, but he is also usually tied to several members of the Midnight Sons.
Most notably, Nightmare was actually the first villain that Doctor Strange ever faced off against. Nightmare has also gone up against a Midnight Sons member that has yet to premiere in the MCU: Ghost Rider. Additionally, Nightmare also has ties to the Dweller-in-Darkness, which was featured in Shang-Chi. This could hint at Nightmare's existence in the MCU, or at least the existence of the Dream Realm.

Director Scott Derrickson Release Date October 25, 2016 Cast Tilda Swinton , Benedict Wong , Michael Stuhlbarg , Mads Mikkelsen , Scott Adkins , Benedict Cumberbatch , Rachel McAdams , Chiwetel Ejiofor Lilith is an ancient being who is known as the mother of demons in Marvel Comics. She controls a group of demons known as the Lilin, and has also partnered with other notable villains like Nightmare. What makes Lilith an obvious choice for a Midnight Sons adaptation is that she is actually the first enemy the team ever fought.
The Midnight Sons were first formed in the Ghost Rider story "Rise of the Midnight Sons," where the team was formed to fight Lilith. Marvel's recent video game adaptation of the team, Marvel's Midnight Suns, also included Lilith as the main antagonist. Though the MCU may want to avoid being too repetitive, there is a strong precedent for Lilith being the first enemy to oppose the team.
