The first trailer for Sony's Kraven the Hunter has been released, showcasing the Marvel Comics big-game hunter's impressive powers. Kraven the Hunter has been teased in a variety of Sony projects, first expected to appear in Sam Raimi's unmade Spider-Man 4, hinted at in 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and even almost included in the MCU's Black Panther, before Ryan Coogler realized the character's film rights lay with Sony. While none of these amounted to anything, Sony set to work developing a standalone Kraven the Hunter project for the Sony Spider-Man Universe, which is scheduled for release on October 6, 2023, finally bringing the iconic Marvel Comics villain to the big screen.
Details about Kraven the Hunter's cast and storyline have been slowly revealed in the lead-up to the release of the film's first official trailer on June 19, 2023. The trailer showcased Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Sergei Kravinoff's origin story, as being raised by his tough father - portrayed by Russell Crowe - forged him into a formidable hunter. While Kraven the Hunter's trailer details an exciting debut for the big-game hunter in the Sony Spider-Man Universe, it seems that Sony has taken some liberties with Kraven's origin story, significantly changing how he gets his powers from the Marvel Comics source material.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Kraven the Hunter is shown to be utilizing his enhanced senses, superhuman speed, strength, and agility to chase down an escaping van. Kraven is also shown to be able to communicate with wild animals in Kraven the Hunter and has animalistic qualities that rival that of the X-Men's Wolverine.
How Kraven's Superpowers Are Different In The Movie Than The Comics

In Marvel Comics, Kraven the Hunter's abilities come from his self-made potion, created from jungle herbs that grant him his superhuman abilities. In Sony's Kraven the Hunter, however, the trailer seems to imply that Kraven is gifted his powers after being bitten by a lion and exposed to the predator's blood, making his power set appear much more permanent - not something he needs to keep topping up with the serum. While this origin story is a significant change from Marvel Comics, it will allow Kraven the Hunter to explore a different side of the character, as he didn't choose to have powers but will need to live with them nonetheless.
While the method of Kraven receiving his powers seems to be very different in the upcoming project, Kraven the Hunter's trailer proved that there are many similarities between Kraven's powers in the film and in Marvel Comics. The major differences lie with the addition of Kraven's more animalistic qualities, as his eyes glow in the dark like a big cat, he is seen biting an enemy in animalistic fashion, and he runs on all fours, emulating a predator chasing its prey. Kraven the Hunter will also not feature Kraven as an old man in a young man's body but will show Kraven's early life, seemingly with a normal aging process.
