Gwen’s Spider-Man Team From Across The Spider-Verse’s Ending Explained

Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Gwen Stacy is the leader of a team of Spider-Man variants at the end of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and Hailee Steinfeld's character will play a big role alongside her team in the animated trilogy's finale. 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse introduced the concept of the Spider-Verse to great success, with the film being the perfect first chapter for Shameik Moore's Miles Morales. Miles would come to discover the existence of other universes and other Spider-Men in them, which included Steinfeld's Gwen Stacy and Jake Johnson's Peter B. Parker. Both multiverse versions of Spider-Man would return for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
The Spider-Verse sequel went even bigger with its scope, bringing Miles, Gwen, and Peter face to face with what appeared to be thousands of other Spider-Men. Miles ditched his universe for a trip across different universes, eventually finding his way onto Miguel O'Hara's Spider-Society HQ. By the end of the film, Miles is held hostage by a Prowler variant of himself in a different universe after fighting the other Spider-Men to save his father from being killed by The Spot. This is where Gwen Stacy comes in. Steinfeld's character forms her own team of Spider-people to save Miles and defeat The Spot, with exciting characters joining Gwen on the mission.
Who Is In Gwen's Spider-Man Team In Across The Spider-Verse's Ending? The Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse ending features Gwen Stacy assembling her own team of Spider-Man variants to travel to Earth-42, rescue Miles, and then go back to save his father from being killed by The Spot. The once ridiculed villain grew exponentially in power throughout the film, with The Spot becoming one of the most dangerous foes any Spider-Man has faced — in animation and live-action — by the end of the film. Gwen Stacy's team of Spider-people includes a mix of characters introduced in the franchise's two films so far. Peter B. Parker, Spider-Punk, Peni Parker, Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Ham, Pavitr Prabhakar, and Spider-Byte make up the team.
How Did Gwen Form The Spider-Man Team (& Why It Might Not Be The Final Version) 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse featured Peni Parker, Spider-Man Noir, and Spider-Ham alongside the main Spider-Verse franchise trio of Miles, Gwen, and Peter B. Parker. While all three supporting characters made a return in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, only Peni spoke in the film, with Nicolas Cage and John Mulaney not reprising their roles as Spider-Man Noir and Spider-Ham, respectively. That move was likely due to the movie's creative team wanting to focus on introducing new Spider-Men variants to Miles' world, with Spider-Punk, Pavitr Prabhakar, and Spider-Byte making the cut for Gwen's team to save Miles and defeat The Spot in 2024's Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
After Gwen was sent back to her reality by Miguel, she discovered that Hobie Brown had created a bootleg device for her to travel through the Spider-Verse. Using the device, Gwen assembled her team of Spider-Men, including the heroes that have most contributed to Miles' journey across the franchise. While the team already has a decent number of members, it was shown by Miguel's Spider-Society that a team of Spider-Man variants can always do with more members. Just like the two movies before it have done, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will likely include new Spider-Man variants to its story, and some of them could make their way onto Gwen's team.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse introduced live-action elements to the franchise, and it is possible that one of the three live-action movie Spider-Man actors — Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield — will appear as their Peter Parker to lend a hand to the team. In the animated realm, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will include Gwen Stacy variants, with at least one of them being teased to play a big part in the story, which could translate to a Spider-Gwen joining Steinfeld's Spider-Woman and the rest of her team. Josh Keaton's Spectacular Spider-Man, Oscar Isaac's Spider-Man 2099, and more members of the Spider-Society could also choose to aid Miles in the end.
What Gwen's Spider-Man Team Means For Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse's Story Steinfeld's Gwen Stacy has had an interesting trajectory in the Spider-Verse movies. The original showed her potential, with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse giving way more focus to the character. Gwen is the first character to show up in the movie and is the focus of the film's very final shot, showing how important she is to the franchise. Steinfeld's character leading her own team of Spider-people in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse continues that Gwen Stacy trend, which means the team will play a big role in the film.
That is especially true since it is Spider-Punk's bootleg Spider-Verse travel device that should be responsible for bringing Miles back to his reality in time to save his father and defeat The Spot, showing how crucial Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's team of Spider-Man variants is. If Miguel and the other members of the Spider-Society decide not to turn sides and help Miles stop his Spider-Verse canon event, then Gwen's team will be even more important, as the heroes' on Miles' side can hold off the Spider-Society for him to save his father the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse sequel.
