Kevin Smith Is Right, Ben Affleck Would Be Perfect In The Dark Knight Returns

Kevin Smith thinks Ben Affleck could return as Batman in a movie based on The Dark Knight Returns, and Affleck's Batman would be absolutely perfect for that. Ben Affleck would first portray Batman in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, though the infamous reshoots on 2017's Justice League would lead Affleck to step down as Batman, including from his planned Batman movie. The Justice League situation would see a happy ending with the 2021 release of Snyder's cut of the movie, titled Zack Snyder's Justice League, and though Affleck returns in The Flash, James Gunn's plans for the new DCU under DC Studios will not involve Affleck's Batman.
At the same time, Kevin Smith is not ruling out further appearances of Affleck's Batman. While discussing The Flash on the Fatman Beyond podcast, Smith states, "I know that Ben loves The Dark Knight Returns," and that if Affleck were offered the opportunity to adapt Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns at some point down the road, "He might say yeah." Smith's comment on Affleck headlining such a Batman movie is even more spot-on than it seems. With how Ben Affleck's Batman has been established, and what is known about Affleck's unproduced Batman script, he would be the ideal big-screen Batman for The Dark Knight Returns.
