Green Lantern"s Gun Controversy Explained (& The 1 Thing Everyone"s Ignoring)

Summary
  • Concept art for John Diggle as Green Lantern in Arrow has been revealed, sparking a mixed response from fans.
  • Despite Arrow runing for eight seasons and dropping hints, a full Green Lantern storyline for Diggle never fully materialized.
  • The presence of a gun in Diggle's Green Lantern suit sparked debate, but this arguably reflects the practical approach of Arrowverse.
Scrapped concept art from Arrow revealed an unused Green Lantern suit for John Diggle, which featured Diggle holding a gun - a detail that received a divided response from audiences. Despite Arrow running for 8 seasons and heavily implying that John Diggle would eventually become the Green Lantern of the Arrowverse timeline, the storyline never truly came to fruition.
A newsletter from Marc Guggenheim, creator and producer of Arrow, revealed concept art for what John Diggle as a Green Lantern would entail. In the newsletter, Guggenheim talks about the concept art, and how it was never able to be brought into the actual show. Despite the Green Lantern story never being fully utilized in Arrow, it's clear there were at least hopes regarding this narrative, especially given this art's existence - but the suit's arrival on-screen may have raised the same questions some had upon seeing the concept art.
