The new Captain America: Brave New World trailer revealed at San Diego Comic-Con confirms that adamantium will finally be introduced into the MCU. With the recent release of Deadpool & Wolverine, many speculated that the film would be the MCU’s chance to name-drop adamantium for the first time. However, the super metal’s grand reveal is now confirmed to be in Brave New World, as per new footage revealed at Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel, which Screen Rant attended.
The SDCC trailer opens with Harrison Ford’s Thaddeus Ross addressing a crowd of world leaders at the White House about the Celestial mass in the Indian Ocean. Ross comments that countries fought over who would get the resources and research from the site, but that the Celestial mass actually belongs to “all of us.” The opening minute of the trailer is complete with Ross stating, “Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you: adamantium.”

It is a virtually indestructible steel alloy that can withstand most pressure and cut through almost any surface. Most notably, Wolverine’s skeleton is laced with adamantium, which is how he possesses his superhuman strength. In the comics, it was created by Dr. Myron MacLain when he mixed vibranium and an unknown catalyst, later being duplicated in a version without vibranium known as True Adamantium.
Vibranium has been the most powerful metal in the MCU since the franchise’s inception, but comic fans knew its rival would eventually come along. It was a highly-anticipated plot point, and with it coming so soon in Captain America 4, it likely means that vibranium will be taking a backseat in the MCU. Vibranium has served as the center of several conflicts due to its value and strength, but with how powerful and expensive adamantium is, the resource wars will only intensify as Ross foreshadows at his White House press conference.
The adamantium reveal in Brave New World will be a huge moment for the MCU because it won’t just be the introduction of the long-awaited metal, but it will also finally address the Celestial mass that fans have been wondering about since Eternals.
