Shazam 2 Will Ignore First Movie"s Post-Credits Villain Tease Writer Confirms

DC Studios has recently confirmed that Shazam! Fury of the Gods will ignore the events in the first film's post-credits scene. Following his defeat by Billy Batson and his new family with whom Shazam shared his power, Doctor Sivana meets a classic villain from the comics while imprisoned: Mister Mind. However, it seems that Fury of the Gods will not be paying off the teased alliance of foes.
In an interview with Cinemablend, Shazam! Fury of the Gods' writer Henry Gayden reveals that Mister Mind and Sivana will not be featured in the upcoming sequel. However, that doesn't mean the villainous duo was never part of the narrative when the sequel was first being developed:

"It was a few months. And it was really fun. But what ended up happening is it felt redundant with the first movie. Because despite Mister Mind being a fascinating new addition, it still was a lot of Sivana and Billy, and it didn’t feel like it was telling an emotional next installment. It just felt like it was telling the natural next installment, action-wise."

As Gayden confirms, it seems Sivana facing Billy again would have been too much of the same (even with Mister Mind). As such, it seems the current version of the sequel with the Daughters of Atlas is believed to be far more emotionally resonant.
