Strange New Worlds Season 1 Introduced 9 Planets To Star Trek
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 1 lived up to its name by introducing nine new worlds throughout its ten episodes. Following the adventures of Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), Lieutenant Spock (Ethan Peck), and the crew of the USS Enterprise, Strange New Worlds exemplifies the Star Trek philosophy of seeking out new life and new civilizations. Almost every episode of the first season brought Pike and his crew to a new world, making the universe of Star Trek feel that much bigger. More than any other current Star Trek project, Strange New Worlds celebrates the founding Star Trek ideal of embarking on a journey to explore the unknown.
From the search for First Officer Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn) on Kiley 279 to the deadly encounter with the Gorn on Valeo Beta V, the Enterprise crew truly embrace their mission of exploration. They don't hesitate to step foot on unexplored planets and they fight to save those in danger without stopping to think about their own lives. The first season got Strange New Worlds off to a great start, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 is poised to take the Enterprise crew to even more unexplored planets as they continue their journey across the final frontier. 9 Kiley 279![]()
The premiere episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds finds Captain Pike leading a rescue mission to find Number One on Kiley 279. Number One had been attempting to make first contact with the inhabitants of the planet, believing them to have discovered warp technology. However, the inhabitants did not discover warp technology on their own, but rather reverse-engineered it after witnessing the events of the Star Trek: Discovery episode "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2." Pike and his crew reveal themselves and convince the inhabitants of the planet not to use their newly-developed warp weapon. Kiley 279 has many similarities to Earth of the 21st century, and Pike shows the inhabitants images from Earth and warns them of Earth's devastating World War III.
8 Persephone III![]()
A desert-like M-class planet, Persephone III is home to the Deleb species, who have not yet become technologically advanced enough to discover warp technology. Persephone III was nearly hit by a comet that would have destroyed all life on the planet. In "Children of the Comet," the Enterprise was able to divert the comet enough to prevent its impact on the planet. As the comet passed by, it released water vapor into the planet's atmosphere, which brought much-needed rain to the arid Persephone III. As the Enterprise watched from orbit, Spock observed that this increase in rainfall will likely lead the Deleb to become a more agricultural society and continue their advancement.
7 M'hanit![]()
First believed to be nothing more than an ordinary comet, M'hanit contained an extensive structure beneath its surface. The Enterprise first investigated the comet as it was on a collision course with Persephone III, and Pike and his crew needed to find a way to prevent that collision. After discovering the alien structure inside the comet, an away team with Cadet Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding) was sent to investigate. Soon, a massive Shepard ship appeared, demanding that the Enterprise crew stop interfering with the comet. Pike and Spock were able to covertly alter the trajectory of the comet, which resulted in water vapor entering the atmosphere of Persephone III, providing much-needed rain to the Deneb people on the planet.
6 Hetemit IX![]()
Once home to a colony of genetically-engineered Illyrians, Hetemit IX is a seemingly desolate planet that experiences dangerous ion storms. When the Illyrian colonists disappear, the Enterprise travels to the planet to investigate. They discover that the colonists were plagued by a light virus that caused them to seek out stronger and stronger forms of light until it killed them. The ion storms on the planet caused some of the colonists to become plasma beings. These beings protected Captain Pike and Spock from the ion storms and helped point them to the historical and research records from their colony.
5 Finibus III![]()
In the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds episode "Memento Mori," the Enterprise visits Finibus III to deliver an atmospheric processor to the small Federation colony on the planet. When Captain Pike and his crew arrive, they discover that the colonists are no longer on the planet. The Enterprise soon comes across a cargo ship that contains several survivors from the planet. After speaking with the survivors, Lt. La'an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong) realizes that the colony had been attacked by the Gorn. La'an also notes that this is the farthest the Gorn have ever ventured into Federation space, which does not bode well for the future.
