Summary
  • Marvel Studios may recast Kang the Conqueror for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty following Jonathan Majors' conviction and firing.
  • Colman Domingo has been suggested as a potential replacement for Jonathan Majors in the role of Kang the Conqueror.
  • Colman Domingo has the theatricality and experience to portray a charismatic villain like Kang the Conqueror perfectly, though hasn't confirmed or denied recent rumors.
Marvel Studios may choose to recast Kang the Conqueror ahead of 2026's Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and one of the most popular recast picks has now been imagined among Earth's Mightiest Heroes in a new fan-made MCU poster. Jonathan Majors debuted as Kang the Conqueror variant He Who Remains in 2021's Loki, and portrayed several other variants of the supervillain in the MCU's Multiverse Saga. While he was billed as a major piece of the Multiverse Saga, Jonathan Majors' 2023 conviction on misdemeanour counts of harassment and assault saw him fired from Marvel Studios, leaving Kang the Conqueror's future uncertain.
While there has been speculation that Marvel Studios will replace Kang the Conqueror with another villain, perhaps Doctor Doom, it's also possible that the multiversal villain could be recast. Nothing has yet been officially confirmed, but several high-profile actors have been suggested as perfect to take over from Majors, including Colman Domingo, who has now been imagined as Kang the Conqueror in a fan-made Avengers: The Kang Dynasty poster shared by MJD Artworks.
This art imagines Domingo's Kang as a villain to a new team of Avengers in the MCU, comprising the likes of Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel and Spider-Man.

Why Colman Domingo Is Such A Popular Pick For Kang Close Star of stage and screen, Colman Domingo has the perfect level of theatricality necessary to portray a charismatic villain such as Kang the Conqueror. Domingo received widespread acclaim for his roles in Broadway productions including 2005's Well, 2008's Passing Strange and 2011's The Scottsboro Bros, but came into the public eye as Victor Strand in Fear the Walking Dead, the first spinoff from AMC's The Walking Dead. He earned an Emmy for portraying Ali in Euphoria, and made himself known on the big screen in projects such as Selma, If Beale Street Could Talk, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and Candyman.
Colman Domingo has worked with several MCU alumni, including Zendaya in Euphoria, Chadwick Boseman in 42 and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, Anthony Mackie in Freedomland, Tommy Lee Jones, Lee Pace and James Spader in Lincoln, Paul Rudd in All Is Bright, and Teyonah Parris and Dominique Thorne in If Beale Street Could Talk, among others.
During a 2021 interview with AwardsWatch, Colman Domingo stated that he was ready to jump into Marvel or DC, noting, 'I'm worked out, fit, I think I want to play a villain." More recently, Domingo spoke to Entertainment Tonight in January 2024, and noted that, while he'd heard about the rumors, he doesn't "know how much is true." This could simply be a case of an MCU actor playing coy, as it's entirely possible Domingo has already had conversations with Marvel Studios, though with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty still several years away, any concrete news may be a while off.
