Doctor Strange Star Teases Imminent MCU Return Despite 2 Years Of Silence On The Sequel

Summary
  • Wong could return to the MCU soon, hinted by actor Benedict Wong.
  • No news on Doctor Strange 3 as of yet, but Wong's return is looming.
  • Wong is the MCU's current Sorcerer Supreme.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe could soon be seeing the return of Wong, despite no word on a possible Doctor Strange 3 yet. Wong's latest movie appearance was in 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which saw the character help Benedict Cumberbatch's Stephen Strange keep the young America Chavez safe from the Scarlet Witch. Despite no official updates on Doctor Strange 3's status, Wong will seemingly return soon.
Speaking to ComicBook.com, Benedict Wong teased that Wong's MCU return will happen in the near future. Wong has become the MCU's Sorcerer Supreme due to Doctor Strange having been snapped by Thanos, and that means the character occupies an important place in the MCU. With his new title and a rumored solo project in the works, Wong could continue his recent trend of appearing in multiple MCU movies and series. Check out the full quote below:

Where will the Sorcerer Supreme show up next in the franchise? How Wong Could Return To The MCU The Sorcerer Supreme Could Lead His Own Project Close As the MCU's Sorcerer Supreme, Wong will be needed in the fight against Kang the Conqueror, the multiversal teams of Kang variants known as the Council of Kangs, and any other threats that arise in the two upcoming Avengers movies. By helping Doctor Strange deal with the Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Wong has multiverse experience. That will be valuable for the Avengers films.
The character's most likely return should happen in Doctor Strange 3. The trilogy finale for Cumberbatch's Stephen Strange has yet to be confirmed; however, given the hero's popularity and the latest Doctor Strange movie ending on a cliffhanger about incursions — a major part of Avengers: Secret Wars, and the introduction of Charlize Theron's Clea, Doctor Strange 3 is all but confirmed. The movie could see Wong protecting Earth from multiversal threats while Doctor Strange is off fighting an incursion.
There is also a unique possibility for Wong's MCU future. While the character has been a supporting player in several MCU movies and series, there is a rumored TV show that would see Wong finally become the star of an MCU project. While there has been no official word on it, a Strange Academy series has been rumored to be in the works, with Wong teaching young MCU magic users. Based on him training America Chavez at the end of Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness, Wong's rumored MCU project could come true.
