Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 Theory Suggests Unique Adam Warlock & Star-Lord Connection

Star-Lord and Adam Warlock could already share one weird connection in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Will Poulter was announced to be bringing Marvel Comics' Adam Warlock to life in James Gunn's final Marvel Studios adventure, which is scheduled for release on May 5, 2023, as part of the MCU's Phase 5. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will mark the end of the current line-up of Guardians, with speculation suggesting that one or more will meet their demise in the upcoming film. However, new faces will be introduced too, including Chukwudi Iwuji's High Evolutionary and Poulter's highly-anticipated Adam Warlock.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will see Star-Lord, Nebula, Rocket, Drax, Groot, Mantis, Kraglin, newcomer Cosmo the Spacedog, and the 2014 variant of Gamora go up against the High Evolutionary and Adam Warlock in one final and epic adventure. While the film is expected to explore Rocket's backstory in great detail, the debut of Adam Warlock is a huge development that could change the shape of the Guardians team forever. This is especially true if one wild theory from Reddit user Gueswhobaktelafren turns out to be true, as Warlock could already have a strong connection to one member of the original Guardians of the Galaxy.
Star-Lord & Adam Warlock Could Be Related In GOTG Vol. 3

In a diversion from his Marvel Comics origins, the MCU's Adam Warlock was created by Ayesha, High Priestess of the Sovereign, as the perfect weapon to destroy the Guardians of the Galaxy, following their betrayal of her people in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Warlock was first teased during one of the Phase 3 film's post-credits scenes, and one line from that film could have informed Warlock's actual origin. During GOTG Vol 2, Ayesha seemed particularly interested in Peter Quill's, a.k.a. Star-Lord's, specific genetic makeup, as his mother was human, but his father was the Celestial Ego.
The Reddit theory poses that, following the battle with the Guardians of the Galaxy on Ego's planet, Ayesha could have collected some of the dead Celestial's DNA and used this to create Adam Warlock. Not only would this make Warlock incredibly powerful, especially when combined with the DNA of the Sovereign people, but this would also mean that Warlock and Quill would be related in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. It's even possible that Ayesha could have gathered a sample of Quill's own DNA, so perhaps Adam Warlock could be revealed to be Star-Lord's brother, or even his own son.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Has Always Dealt With Family Themes

While this theory might seem outlandish, it is actually perfectly in keeping with the themes of each of James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy projects. Gunn puts a huge amount of emphasis on the theme of family in the Guardians franchise, so having Peter Quill and Adam Warlock be related would solidify this theme for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, the family theme centered on Quill dealing with the loss of his, but finding a new one in the form of his antihero friends. This film also explored the family dynamic between Gamora, Nebula, and Thanos for the first time.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 focused on Rocket, who eventually realizes the value of the team's family dynamic. As does Yondu, who sacrifices himself to save Quill after proclaiming that he'd been the best father he could have been to his surrogate son. The debut of Ego, Quill's biological father, in GOTG Vol. 2 also brought about the introduction of Mantis, his aide, who was revealed to be Quill's half-sister in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. It would make complete sense for this family theme to continue into GOTG Vol. 3, and connecting Quill with Adam Warlock would be a shocking but brilliant way to do this.
Will Star-Lord Pass The Torch To Adam Warlock In GOTG Vol. 3?

In Marvel Comics, Adam Warlock was an original member of Star-Lord's Guardians of the Galaxy team, so there has been speculation that the MCU's newest villain-turned-hero will join the team after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. James Gunn and various cast members have confirmed that this is the final adventure for the current iteration of the Guardians, so some members are surely destined to die or at least retire, clearing up space for someone as powerful as Warlock to join. It's even possible that Star-Lord himself could meet his end in the upcoming film, which could mean that Adam Warlock could take over as the team's leader.
If it's revealed that Peter Quill and Adam Warlock are, in fact, related, Warlock would be the perfect candidate to assume control of the new Guardians of the Galaxy, following in his relative's footsteps and continuing his legacy. This would make for an incredibly strong introduction for Will Poulter into the MCU and set up some major storylines for the MCU's Phases 5, 6, and beyond. Even so, Chris Pratt has announced nothing about leaving Marvel Studios following Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, so he could continue as the team's leader for several more years, though it's likely that Adam Warlock will join them either way.
