Endgame Director Tells Fans To Be Patient With MCU"s Phase 5 Story

Co-director Joe Russo asks fans to be patient with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase 5. After the end of the Infinity Saga, the delayed Phase 4 marked the transition period for the franchise. As that chapter closes and the MCU Phase 5 starts, fans are beginning to be a bit impatient with Marvel Studios' current world-building, especially after Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania.
Despite the frustration from its legion of followers, Joe Russo tells Radio Times that it's best to be patient with Kevin Feige and his team. He also pointed out that it's unfair to use the Infinity Saga as a comparison to what Marvel Studios is doing with the Multiverse Saga because they are very different from each other. Read his full quote below:
There’s nobody better at telling stories than Kevin Feige right now. If you’re going to bet on anybody, you bet on him. I think that the type of story that unfolded in the phases that we worked on [was] a very specific kind of story that wrapped itself up in those phases and now it’s time for a new story, and I think that’s the direction that Marvel’s headed in. They’re telling you a very different story, a very new story and I think the audience just needs to be patient with the redirection because you can’t keep telling the same story over and over or you lose the audience. I think they’re taking some very big swings and they’re playing around with the tone and they’re championing diversity as much as anyone in the storytelling space right now and all of these things are huge wins for large-scale storytelling."
Can The MCU's Multiverse Saga Still Have A Satisfying Conclusion? As Marvel Studios' Multiverse Saga enters its middle chapter, there is a growing concern that the MCU will fail to deliver a great conclusion to its current storytelling the way it did with the Infinity Saga. While Phase 4 was generally well-received, there are also clear issues plaguing it that have yet to be resolved. Add to that the growing superhero fatigue phenomenon, and many are wondering if this is the beginning of the end of the MCU.
For what it's worth, MCU's Phase 2 also had its issues. It included Thor: The Dark World — dubbed one of, if not the worst film in the franchise, and Avengers: Age of Ultron, which was a letdown considering all the hype around it being The Avengers' follow-up. Currently, MCU Phase 5 has only released one film — Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania. This means the franchise has plenty of other opportunities to make up for its past mistakes with high-profile projects such as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Marvels.
At this point, only time will tell if Marvel Studios can move past what seems like a tumultuous period in its history. But just as Russo said, it's best to be patient with Phase 5 and the Multiverse Saga as a whole knowing what Feige is capable of pulling off. The MCU's beloved Infinity Saga is proof of that.
