DC fan shows what Jake Gyllenhaal could look like as Batman in a live-action DC movie, possibly the DCU's The Brave and the Bold. With Robert Pattinson playing Bruce Wayne in the non-DCU The Batman, James Gunn and Peter Safran are free to cast any actor for the role of the DCU's Dark Knight in Andy Muschietti's upcoming The Brave and the Bold. This version of Batman is expected to return in future DCU movies and shows, including sequels, spinoffs, and crossovers. As is always the case with such an iconic character, the choice of actor is a suject of debate.
On Instagram, artist and avid DC fan Luis Filipe shares his vision for DC's next live-action Batman. Taking inspiration from the Dark Knight's current era of comic books, the artwork puts actor Jake Gyllenhaal in Batman's sleek Rebirth gray-and-black costume. This Batman sports a cape that covers his shoulders, and he appears unmasked, revealing how the mask is completely separate from the cape. See the artwork below:
What Jake Gyllenhaal Has Said About Playing Batman & Why He'd Be A Great Choice Jake Gyllenhaal Has The Necessary Experience To Play The Dark Knight Close Jake Gyllenhaal has been a candidate for Batman for a long time. Gyllenhaal was in the running to play Bruce Wayne in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins, but ultimately lost the role to Christian Bale. Speaking with Screen Rant, Jake Gyllenhaal expressed his interest in playing Batman, saying "It would be an honor always. Those types of things and those roles are classics." Two decades after being in the shortlist to play the Caped Crusader, Gyllenhaal would still be ready to play the hero on the big screen.
Besides all the fan castings, Jake Gyllenhaal seems like an ideal actor for the DCU's Batman. Gyllenhaal has played a wide range of characters with similar traits to the Dark Knight, from the crime-fighting Detective Loki in Prisoners to the obsessive crime journalist Lou Bloom in Nightcrawler. Not to mention, Gyllenhaal also stays in top shape for physically demanding roles like the boxing champion Billy Hope in Southpaw and UFC champion Elwood Danton in 2024's Road House.
Jake Gyllenhaal's sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal, played Rachel Dawes in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight.
At 43, Jake Gyllenhaal would be older than Ben Affleck was when he was cast in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, Gyllenhaal could fit perfectly in The Brave and the Bold as an experienced Batman with a teenage son, Damian Wayne. Gyllehnaal also has experience in the superhero genre, having played Spider-Man's villain Quentin Beck a.k.a. Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home — a drastically different character to Batman.
