Marvel Just Subtly Confirmed A Very Important Thing About The Avengers In Phase 5

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Agatha All Along episode 6, "Familiar By Thy Side."
A great call-back to Phase 1 of the MCU was included in Agatha All Along episode 6, which also confirmed an interesting detail about the current status of the Avengers team. Following the shocking, yet expected, reveal that Joe Locke"s "Teen" is actually Billy Maximoff in Agatha All Along episode 5, "Darkest Hour, Wake Thy Power," episode 6 explored his new origin story in the MCU. Detailing the three years between WandaVision and Agatha All Along, episode 6, "Familiar By Thy Side," uncovered previously unknown information about the MCU"s timeline.
Agatha All Along episode 6 took audiences back to WandaVision"s finale, which took place on the same day as William Kaplan"s Bar Mitzvah. The event was cut short by the Westview Anomaly being shrunk by the Scarlet Witch, and, in their haste, the Kaplan family ended up crashing their car, causing William"s early demise, and allowing his empty body to be taken over by the soul of Billy Maximoff. While this could be an exciting development for the MCU"s Young Avengers team, the original Avengers also received a mention in Agatha All Along.
Agatha All Along’s WandaVision Explanation Repeats Iron Man’s Trick Iron Man's First Mission Was Played Off As A Training Exercise Close After Billy Maximoff reveals to his boyfriend, Miles Gutierrez-Riley"s Eddie, that he is, in fact, not William Kaplan, they discuss the events of WandaVision"s finale. Eddie suggests that the Westview Anomaly is public knowledge as "an Avengers training exercise gone wrong," which calls back to the MCU"s very first feature film, Iron Man. During his first mission as Iron Man in 2008, Tony Stark freed the residents of Yinsen"s home village from terrorists, but was then intercepted by Air Force fighter jets, leading to him revealing his heroism to his best friend, James "Rhodey" Rhodes.
Related Agatha All Along Episode 6 Easter Eggs & Marvel References Agatha All Along episode 6 is full of exciting Easter eggs and MCU references back to the events of WandaVision as Teen"s past is finally revealed.
After Iron Man"s spar with these fighter jets leads to one being destroyed, Stark urges Rhodey to cover up his heroic identity under the guise of a training exercise gone wrong, which he does. This is later played as a joke again as Rhodey stops the Air Force getting involved in Stark"s final battle against Obadiah Stane, a.k.a. Iron Monger. Referencing WandaVision"s finale as an Avengers training exercise was a great call-back to 2008"s Iron Man, but also confirmed an interesting new detail about the Avengers in the MCU.
Crucially, Marvel Just Confirmed The Public Still Believe The Avengers Exist The Public Believes WandaVision Was A Training Exercise For The Avengers The status of the Avengers team in the MCU has been uncertain since 2019"s Avengers: Endgame. Trailers for Marvel"s upcoming Captain America: Brave New World have confirmed that the Avengers are disbanded, though President Ross will urge Sam Wilson"s Captain America to rebuild the team. While the Avengers may not currently be functioning as a team, the public might not be fully aware of this, and this is implied thanks to Eddie"s comments in Agatha All Along episode 6. It seems the public still believe the Avengers exist.
The Avengers operated on a skeleton crew during the five-year-long Blip, with new members joining, including Captain Marvel, Okoye, Nebula, Rocket and more.
This makes sense after the events of Avengers: Endgame. The Battle of Earth featured almost every hero in the MCU fighting Thanos and his armies, and this would have been well-documented and reported on, making it public knowledge. Witnessing the Battle of Earth may have convinced the world that the Avengers were coming back together following their disbanding in Captain America: Civil War, and this belief may have persisted for the last three years prior to Agatha All Along. Of course, this isn"t actually the case, but the MCU will surely expand on this in its upcoming projects.
