Thor"s Post-Endgame Story Makes Nick Fury"s Skrull Betrayal Even Worse

Nick Fury has failed to find the Skrulls a new home in Secret Invasion, but Thor's MCU story raises important questions concerning why the Skrulls can't stay living on Earth. The shape-shifting Skrulls were first introduced to the MCU in 2019's Captain Marvel, not as the die-hard villains that they are in Marvel Comics, but as desperate refugees seeking a new home after the Kree destroyed their home planet of Skrullos. In Captain Marvel, both Nick Fury and Carol Danvers promised the Skrulls that they'd find them a new home, but Phase 5's Secret Invasion, set thirty years later, proves that they didn't keep their word.
Secret Invasion episode 2, "Promises," revealed that, far be it from the handful of Skrulls thought to be living on Earth, there are actually a million refugee Skrulls that have integrated themselves into human society. Secret Invasion's shocking million Skrulls reveal highlights the importance of finding the Skrulls a new home, particularly since Gravik and the Skrull rebellion intend to claim Earth as their own. While Nick Fury is adamant that so many Skrulls can't stay living among humans indefinitely, however, previous MCU projects have already seen humans share the Earth with another prominent alien race, though the same grace may not be shown to the Skrulls.
Thor's New Asgard Makes Secret Invasion's Skrull Story Problematic Avengers: Endgame and Thor: Love & Thunder explored the MCU's New Asgard, a repurposed town in Norway where Asgardian refugees have built their new home following the destruction of Asgard in Thor: Ragnarok. While New Asgard was a simple town in Endgame, Love & Thunder proved that humanity had embraced the Asgardians, and New Asgard had even been transformed into a high-profile tourist destination. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law even featured a shape-shifting Light Elf from New Asgard, showing the extent of the alien integration into human society, as even Runa was accepted. This poses a problem for Secret Invasion, as the Skrulls have been neglected.
Why Earth's Rejection Of Skrulls And Not Asgardians Could Make Sense The most obvious reason for the Skrulls not being granted a permanent home on Earth when species' such as the Asgardians have comes down to their physical appearance. Skrulls can shape-shift into the form of any living being, but they are surely more comfortable in their own skin, so would rather live as themselves, which could put them in conflict with a portion of humanity. This is, of course, cemented in real life refugee stories, as many cases of refugees being refused asylum boil down to complex racial issues, which is at the core of Secret Invasion.
Asgardians may have a wildly different physiology to humans, but they share the same physical traits and features, which means they are easier to integrate into society - especially given Thor's hero reputation on Earth. This isn't the case for the Skrulls, particularly when they are in their own skin. Secret Invasion episode 2 featured a fantastic and powerful dialogue between Nick Fury and James "Rhodey" Rhodes concerning their racial backgrounds, and how hard they had to fight for their positions. This relates perfectly to the story of the Skrulls in Secret Invasion, though this seems to have been overlooked in the MCU's Phase 5.
