Thunderbolts is reportedly introducing Sentry to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and according to Invincible creator Robert Kirkman, Steven Yeun will indeed be the actor to play him. One of the major upcoming MCU movies is Thunderbolts, which will finally see the culmination of the morally gray team coming together on the big screen. Often regarded as Marvel's version of Suicide Squad, the ensemble movie will feature returning favorites such as Yelena Belova as the new Black Widow, Bucky Barnes, and many more.
One of the long-time rumors that has surrounded Thunderbolts is that Steven Yeun, who was cast in February 2023, will be playing none other than Robert Reynolds, a.k.a. Sentry, a powerful Marvel character who will supposedly be the villain that the Thunderbolts team will take on in the movie. During an appearance on David Finch's YouTube show,
Kirkman may have accidentally confirmed that Yeun is set to play Sentry in Thunderbolts. The Invincible comic creator mentioned how Yeun had called him to talk about his costume fitting, as he shared the following:
[Steven] called me, he went in for a costume fitting…I hope I’m not... I don’t think this is a spoiler, or anything that will get anybody in trouble. I don’t know, maybe, we’ll see. He told me, ‘Uh, I just came back from a costume fitting for the Sentry. I guess I only do superheroes that are yellow and blue.' He was at the costume fitting and was like ‘Aw crap, I forgot Invincible was yellow and blue!’

Why Steven Yeun Is A Perfect MCU Sentry Casting
The prospect of Sentry joining the MCU is a big deal, and Yeun is a terrific casting choice for the role. Even though the show wasn't a superhero property, Yeun is mostly known for his role as Glenn Rhee on The Walking Dead, which is one of Kirkman's biggest comic book series from Image Comics. Yeun's portrayal of Glenn in the AMC zombie apocalypse cult drama made him a massive fan favorite during his run on The Walking Dead, showcasing the kind of charisma that would massively benefit a complex role like Sentry.

Despite the fact that audiences tend to be more familiar with Yeun's work on The Walking Dead, the actor is no stranger to the actual superhero genre. Yeun is currently voicing Mark Grayson in Amazon Prime's animated adaptation of Kirkman's Invincible, which is currently airing season 2 and has already been renewed for another season. This means much of the nuance of playing a character with immense powers - and playing a character adapted from superhero comics - is something the actor is already familiar with, making the prospect of him taking these skills to the live-action side of the superhero genre all the more exciting.
At the time of this story's publication, neither Yeun or anyone at Marvel Studios have made any statements on Kirkman's Sentry comments.
Time will tell how the MCU will approach Sentry, but the seeming confirmation of his Thunderbolts introduction will make things very interesting, to say the least. Given how powerful Sentry is in the comics, it is highly unlikely that Thunderbolts will be a one-and-done for Yeun, as he could appear in future MCU stories. Once
Thunderbolts finally starts filming, the world may get a look at Yeun as Sentry through set photos unless Marvel Studios make a proper reveal themselves.
