Since multiple Marvel TV shows are starting to become canon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one of the stars of
Marvel"s Runaways teases the possibility of a return. Ever since Marvel Studios revealed that the Marvel-Netflix shows are tied to the main continuity of the MCU timeline, many have been wondering what that could mean for other Marvel TV shows that originated outside of Disney+. While Marvel"s Runaways ended almost five years ago, one of the lead actors is opening up about a hypothetical second go with those characters.
In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant promoting The Penguin finale,
Rhenzy Feliz was asked about his Marvel history after having played Alex Wilder on Marvel"s Runaways. When discussing how the original Marvel TV shows are slowly becoming MCU canon, Feliz was asked if he would want to revisit Marvel"s Runaways if Kevin Feige gave him and the cast a call. Feliz was more than open to coming back, sharing the following:
I would love to work with those guys again. I would love to work with the actors, you know, the rest of the Runaways. I love them. I still keep in touch [to] this day, so I love them as human beings. I think we"re a little bit old now to be the Runaways, but I could see it. I could see it working somehow. I think if there was a call, again, it would have to make sense, and we"d read it, and we"d dive in, and we tried to make the best kind of story we could to be a part of something, but I love getting to work with that company. I love getting to work with those people. So I would definitely be open to it, 100%
While several years have passed since the show concluded in 2019,
Feliz was also game to explore what the characters" lives would look like today as adults, following the events of the Marvel"s Runaways season 3 finale. When asked about the idea of playing the evil version of Alex as explored in the final season, Feliz shared the following thoughts:
Yeah, exactly, it could be like a time jump. We could be older now and see what happened to them as they got older. That would be pretty awesome. Because I just think it"s been so much time, that was 2019, when we shot that, so it"s been five years. I think I would like to think that I"ve improved in my abilities. I would like to think so. So I think it"d be fun. It"d be fun to attack that again, try it again, or even something similar. It doesn"t have to be the same role. I"m just so excited with where my career is right now, where my life is right now, and what I"ve learned, and I"m excited to attack new roles and to try and figure out new things and to explore new characters. It"s all very exciting right now. I"m still very much in love with this thing, and so I would welcome any of those challenges for sure.
What Rhenzy Feliz's Runaways Comments Mean Close While Feige may not have made a call to the cast after the Marvel"s Runaways series finale, that doesn"t mean it couldn"t happen in the future. As Feliz stated himself,
it would have to make sense in order for it to happen, especially as it has been a number of years since these characters"s stories ended. Even though multiple Daredevil characters are coming back for Daredevil: Born Again, it"s key to note how most of The Defenders haven"t been announced to come back, as Marvel Studios may still be working out logistical story reasons that would justify their returns.
After all, there were clearly ideas for the Marvel"s Runaways season 4 story that could have extended the run of the series had it not been canceled. Even though some of those ideas would likely have to be adjusted, given the amount of time that has passed since the Hulu drama ended,
it would still be fascinating to see how Marvel"s Runaways could fit into the current MCU. It would also be interesting to learn where each season of Marvel"s Runaways fits into the MCU phases that has come and gone.
Our Take On Rhenzy Feliz's Runaways Comments
Given the great success of Marvel"s Runaways,
it would be terrific to see Feliz reunited with the rest of the cast to get a chance to complete their story as part of the larger MCU franchise. If it can"t happen within The Multiverse Saga, there is always the chance they could make it work after Avengers: Secret Wars, which is rumored to lead to a soft reboot of the timeline. That could naturally make Marvel"s Runaways canon to the new timeline in Phase 7. But for now, the world will have to wait and see if Marvel Studios will ever explore
Marvel"s Runaways again in one way or another.
The Penguin season 1 finale airs on HBO this Sunday at 9pm ET.
