That Major Character At The End Of The Marvels Explained

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for The Marvels
Summary
  • Kelsey Grammer returns as Beast in The Marvels, teasing the future of the X-Men franchise in the MCU.
  • Monica has seemingly found herself in the X-Men universe, setting up crossover potential between the MCU and the Fox X-Men universe.
  • Beast's appearance suggests he could return in Deadpool 3 and/or potentially have a role in Avengers: Secret Wars as the Multiverse Saga develops.
The Marvels features a major character debut in the MCU multiverse, carrying some very exciting ramifications for the future of the franchise. As seen in the new MCU, Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) joins forces with Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) after their light-based powers become entangled. Fighting the Kree Supremeor Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton) as she seeks to destroy other worlds for the sake of her own, the latest MCU offering is action-packed and lots of fun. However, one of its most exciting moments is centered on the return of a classic Marvel character and the tease of a whole new team in the Marvel multiverse.
As seen at the end of The Marvels, Monica Rambeau sacrifices herself to repair a rift in the space-time continuum that was causing another reality to bleed into the primary Earth-616 reality. However, Captain Marvel was unable to save Monica who subsequently found herself trapped in the wrong universe. As such, The Marvels' post-credits scene saw Rambeau waking up in the presence of two new heroes, one of which is bound to generate all kinds of excitement from MCU fans considering all his appearance undoubtedly means for the future.

Kelsey Grammer Returns As X-Men Character Beast In The Marvels Hank McCoy Is Back! Waking up in a hospital bed, Monica found herself being cared for and monitored by none other than Hank McCoy's Beast of the X-Men. Voiced by actor Kelsey Grammer who played Beast in Fox's original trilogy of X-Men films, Beast's brand-new appearance is incredibly exciting. This is because McCoy is essentially acting as a major tease for all that Marvel Studios is planning for the rest of the Multiverse Saga and their very own X-Men franchise which is currently in development.
The other hero Monica encounters is Binary, a variant of her mother Maria Rambeau not unlike the one seen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness who was a member of Earth-838's Illuminati. However, there's no doubt that Beast's debut in an MCU film is the bigger source of excitement. It's also worth noting that this version of Beast has been brought to life using CGI effects as opposed to the practical makeup seen with Grammer's previous appearances as Hank McCoy (as well as Beast's younger self played by Nicholas Hoult in later X-Men installments.)
Is Beast From the Fox X-Men Universe? Which Beast Are We Looking At? Grammer's return as Beast suggests that Monica is now in Fox's X-Men universe. Furthermore, it seems Monica was taken to the X-Mansion as evidenced by the iconic "X"-shaped doors in the background combined with the classic X-Men themes from X2: X-Men United and Days of Future Past as confirmed by The Marvels' credits. This is very exciting considering the influx of multiversal incursions in the MCU, along with Deadpool 3 which is set to release in 2024.
Not only has it been reported that Deadpool 3 will be focused on the destruction of the Fox universe, but Beast notably mentions the name Charles Xavier in The Marvels' post-credts scene. This is important considering the fact that the variants of Charles Xavier and Maria Rambeau who were part of Earth-838's Illuminati were killed by the Scarlet Witch in Multiverse of Madness. As such, the Xavier name-drop and a new version of Maria being featured in The Marvels suggests that this could indeed be the Fox universe (if not a brand-new universe entirely).

When Beast Could Return In The MCU Deadpool 3? Secret Wars? As far as when the X-Men's Beast might be seen again in the MCU, it seems quite likely that he could return in Deadpool 3 which is rumored to feature several heroes from the Fox universe beyond Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. Likewise, the MCU's Multiverse Saga is set to culminate with Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. If the movie is anything like the comics with its multiple incursions resulting in the end of the multiverse itself, it stands to reason that Hank McCoy's Beast and his reality will likely be featured as well.
That being said, there's a degree of possibility that MCU fans were just introduced to a brand-new universe full of X-Men variants that have yet to be officially introduced besides Beast himself. As such, that would perhaps imply that this is a new version of Beast who won't be seen until Marvel Studios is ready to release their own X-Men movie down the line. That being said, Kelsey Grammer reprising his role as the X-Men's resident scientist/furry blue mutant is a strong indicator that The Marvels just gave audiences a new appearance from the original McCoy.
