Thanks to his chequered past as a villain-turned-hero, Gambit is one of Marvel's most complex and popular mutant characters, so I loved seeing a faithful adaptation of the hardened fighter in Deadpool & Wolverine. Channing Tatum originally auditioned for the role of Gambit for 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand, and has spent almost two decades since trying to bring the character to life. Now that we've had a taste, I want more, so I would love to see Channing Tatum return as Gambit to spearhead the MCU's possible "Mutant Saga."

Despite his huge popularity, 20th Century Fox never managed to integrate Gambit properly into its two-decade-long X-Men franchise. As I previously stated, Channing Tatum first auditioned for Gambit when the character was featured in an early draft of X-Men: The Last Stand, but he was ultimately cut, and due to Tatum's unavailability, Taylor Kitsch portrayed Gambit in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine instead.

This is especially true if every mutant hero that audiences have grown to love over the last 24 years is recast, but I reckon Channing Tatum's return as Gambit could be an easy solution to this problem. Tatum has already appeared as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, so bringing him back would establish a connection to the MCU's past.
Gambit was teased to return to the MCU in Deadpool & Wolverine's post-credits scene, as he was seen on a screen in the Time Variance Authority still wandering around the Void.
Channing Tatum has also been a fan-favorite casting for Gambit for several years, which made his debut in Deadpool & Wolverine even more satisfying. His first appearance in live-action has only increased hopes that he'll return. This likely means that any solo movie featuring Channing Tatum's Gambit in the MCU's future would practically have guaranteed viewership and success. All told, this would make for a very strong start for the "Mutant Saga," so shouldn't be overlooked by Marvel Studios.

Featuring a Gambit movie as the first in the "Mutant Saga" would present the perfect opportunity to introduce other notable characters. Perhaps most specifically, Gambit's long-running, on-again, off-again romance with Rogue could be set up in this movie, bringing a more comic-accurate depiction of the mutant into live-action following Anna Paquin's divisive iteration.
