Longtime DC actor Tom Welling opens up on what is going on with the Smallville sequel series. Since its conclusion in 2011, there has always been the hope that the Smallville cast would come back in another continuation of this take on the Superman mythology. While a live-action revival may not be in the cards for the foreseeable future, Welling has been working on a pitch for an animated Smallville TV show with his co-star Michael Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor.
As Welling recently appeared at Terrificon (via Fandom Spotlite,) the Smallville star finally gave a new update on the animated series and what is going on with the potential revival. While they are waiting for Warner Bros. to give them the greenlight, Welling stressed that they are ready, sharing the following:
We've already got an artist and we have a poster and we haven't been able to share it yet but [it is] like Lionel Luthor looming over everybody and it's really cool. But we can't do anything without DC saying we can do it. They just haven't given us the green light, but we're ready. Al and Miles, who wrote Smallville, want to write it, but It's not our property until they say we can do it.
