New Secret Invasion clip focuses on Nick Fury"s Marvel Cinematic Universe absence. Secret Invasion sees MCU characters such as Samuel L. Jackson"s Nick Fury, Cobie Smulders" Maria Hill, Ben Mendelsohn"s Talos, and Martin Freeman"s Everett Ross attempt to stop a Skrull invasion that is happening on Earth. The characters will not know who to trust, as the Skrulls possess shape-shifting abilities and could be anyone. Nick Fury will soon learn his time away from Earth has come at a heavy cost.On Twitter, Marvel Studios released a new Secret Invasion clip focusing on a conversation about Fury"s MCU absence between him and Maria Hill.

As seen in the clip, the relationship between the characters has been left strained following Fury"s decision to spend the years after he returned from the Blip away from Earth. Fury"s choice will be at the forefront of the Disney+"s Secret Invasion.
How Nick Fury"s Absence Sets Up Secret Invasion

While originally a constant presence in the MCU throughout the Multiverse Saga, Fury has not really appeared in the MCU since Avengers: Endgame. The character was thought to be helping Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Far From Home, only for it to be revealed that the Skrull Talos was actually posing as the character so that the real Fury could be free to work in space. The Marvels" trailer revealed that Fury is operating out of the SABER space station.
Before he returns to space in The Marvels, Fury will have to deal with a group of Skrulls attempting to infiltrate Earth in Secret Invasion. The character"s MCU absence plays a role in that event, with Maria Hill explaining in the clip from the show that Jackson"s character always used to be three steps ahead of everyone else, which is not the case anymore. Fury"s leave of absence from Earth will impact the story, with the character not knowing who to trust, as he has very few allies and even some like Hill are skeptical of what he can contribute after years away.
Secret Invasion"s Skrull plan is the fruit of Fury and Carol Danvers" failure to find a new home for the shape-shifting aliens that was promised in Captain Marvel. The character"s efforts in space could be directly tied to that fact, but it would come as too little too late for the Skrulls, who have been waiting decades for the character"s unfulfilled promise. Fury"s absence from Earth will have led to the invasion happening right under his nose, something the former Director of SHIELD will have to grapple with in Secret Invasion.
