The Marvels Theory Reveals Nick Fury"s Space Role Was Changed By The Eternals

The Marvels will bring Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) back to the big screen and will introduce the organization known as SABER, and a theory reveals that Fury’s role in SABER and the latter’s official appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe were changed by the events of Eternals. The more the MCU expands, the more characters, events, concepts, places, and groups are introduced, with many of them linked to or influenced by past MCU characters and movies – after all, the MCU continues to be the biggest connected universe in the superhero genre. To further expand the MCU’s cosmic side is The Marvels, the long-awaited sequel to Captain Marvel and a continuation of the TV series Ms. Marvel.
The Marvels will bring together Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), and though plot details continue to be scarce, it’s known that, following an investigation into a wormhole linked to the Kree, the powers of Carol, Kamala, and Monica become entangled. This means that every time they use their powers, they swap places with each other, so now they will have to team up to find out why and a solution, but they will also come across a couple of enemies, most notably Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton). Monica Rambeau is now working for SABER, led by Nick Fury, and the presence of this organization in the MCU might be the result of the events of Eternals, at least according to one theory.
Theory: S.A.B.E.R. Was Created Due To Arishem’s Arrival SABER is making its proper debut in the MCU in The Marvels, as Monica Rambeau is now working with Nick Fury at this organization, but even though SABER was created a while ago, its presence in the MCU might be due to the events of Eternals. Chloé Zhao’s Eternals introduced the title team, a group of synthetic beings created by the Celestial Arishem the Judge with the purpose of preparing planets for the birth of new Celestials, as their seeds are inside different planets. The Eternals were unaware of this and believed they had arrived at Earth to help humanity evolve, and once they learned what their real purpose was, they went against their creator’s plans and saved Earth from its destruction by stopping the birth of the Celestial Tiamut.
Following the death of Ikaris and Sprite giving up her powers and becoming human, the rest of the Eternals split into two groups: Sersi, Phastos, and Kingo stayed on Earth, while Druig, Makkari, and Thena left Earth on the Domo to search for other Eternals. Unfortunately for them, Arishem isn’t a forgiving Celestial, and he abducted Sersi, Phastos, and Kingo to examine their memories and decide if humans were truly worth saving or not. However, Arishem made quite an impression when he abducted half of the Eternals as he personally manifested above Earth, meaning that a big part of the world’s population suddenly saw a giant robot-like head in the sky. Although the MCU so far has mostly ignored the events of Eternals and the consequences of them, such as a giant marble statue suddenly appearing in the middle of the ocean and Arishem showing up in the sky, Arishem’s appearance could have been what pushed SABER to be set into motion.
A theory by New Rockstars suggests that SABER was officially launched after Arishem’s sudden appearance at the end of Eternals, as this showed that, even though Thanos and his armies are now long gone, there are still many more threats in the universe, such as a giant Celestial. Arishem’s arrival proved that Earth isn’t safe anymore and might never really be again, so Fury launched SABER in order to keep an eye on any threats from outer space and make sure that Earth is safe – or, at least, as safe as possible.
What’s Known About The MCU’s S.A.B.E.R. So Far Unlike many other organizations and groups in the MCU, SABER isn’t taken from the comics, and instead, it’s an original creation for the MCU, and as such, not much is known about it yet. What’s known is that SABER is an intergalactic organization led by Nick Fury, where he works alongside Monica Rambeau and Skrulls that have served as his agents, among them Talos. The SABER Space Station appears to be the place where Nick Fury was taking a vacation in the mid-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home, so he has been working there for a while now, yet SABER hadn’t been mentioned or seen in action until the trailer for The Marvels.
SABER also appears to be the MCU’s replacement for SWORD, especially after the mess that its former director, Tyler Hayward, made while handling the Westview anomaly in WandaVision. SWORD was founded by Monica’s mother, Maria Rambeau, with the purpose of protecting Earth from extraterrestrial and extradimensional threats, similar to what SABER is supposed to do. The last time SWORD appeared in the MCU, Hayward was taken into custody, so it’s unknown who is in charge now or what happened to this organization since the events of WandaVision, so it’s possible that SABER took its place or it’s an extension of SWORD.
S.A.B.E.R. Will Be Key In The Rest Of The Multiverse Saga Whether an extension of SWORD or its replacement, SABER will be key in the rest of the multiverse saga due to its purpose in the MCU. As mentioned above, Arishem’s arrival proved that there are countless threats around Earth and no one is actually prepared to fight them, and an angry Celestial isn’t the only enemy that can put the planet at risk. The MCU is still dealing with the Kree and there are many other species and characters with too much power (like Zeus and the High Evolutionary, though the latter has been defeated) who could attack Earth if they wanted to, so SABER’s presence will be key in the Multiverse Saga as bigger and more dangerous villains are introduced. SABER could easily take SHIELD’s place after The Marvels, and instead of focusing on threats on Earth, it would be all about those from outer space that present a high risk for the planet.
