10 Loki Season 2 Theories That Would Really Change The MCU

What happens in Loki season 2 will likely set the stage for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and the rest of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. While Doctor Strange (2016) teased the concept of the multiverse, it was only with Loki season 1 that the MCU’s multiverse story really began. Whereas most of the Disney+ MCU shows were relatively self-contained, Loki season 1 is arguably one of the most important entries in the Multiverse Saga’s overarching plot.
Loki season 1’s finale and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s Kang the Conqueror plotline help predict what Loki season 2’s story will be. In addition, Marvel’s Phase 6 slate leading up to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars means that the MCU’s most ambitious crossover event essentially starts with Loki. Here are 10 Loki season 2 theories that would change the MCU’s Multiverse Saga.
10 Victor Timely Is The Original Kang The Conqueror The second Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania post-credit scene is so far the closest thing to a Loki season 2 trailer, as it revisited both Loki and Mobius. In addition, Quantumania’s second post-credits scene introduced Victor Timely, another Kang variant. Loki and Mobius were seemly trying to track down Kang following Loki season 1’s end, during which Loki learned about how dangerous He Who Remains’ variants will be. In the MCU, the line between parallel universes and simple time travel is a bit blurry. Therefore, it is not clear whether Victor Timely, this Kang version from the early 20th century, is simply another Kang variant or the main Kang the Conqueror.
While Loki season 2 could simply establish that Victor Timely is just a Kang variant who happened to exist in the early 20th century, it would be much more interesting for the show to go with Victor Timely’s comic book story. In Marvel Comics, Victor Timely is the actual Kang the Conqueror, also known as Nathaniel Richards. At some point in his story, Kang went back in time to hide in 1901. There, he became an inventor and a politician. Loki was extremely scared of Victor Timely, suggesting that this could indeed be Kang the Conqueror Ant-Man and Wasp faced in Quantumania.
9 Loki Season 2 Will Feature Multiple Kang Variants Based on Quantumania’s post-credits scene, Loki season 2 could be a hunt for Kang variants across multiple universes. Loki season 2 could be the time procedural audiences believed season 1 would be, with Loki and the TVA agents investigating a new timeline every episode. This would allow the MCU to slowly reveal bits of Kang the Conqueror’s backstory while also setting up what is to come in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Whereas Loki season 1 was about finding out who was behind the TVA, Loki season 2 could be about deciphering Kang the Conqueror and his many variants.
8 The Council Of Kangs Is Loki Season 2’s Villain An extension of the previous theory is that the Council of Kangs is Loki season 2’s villain. Quantumania’s Council of Kangs post-credits scene introduced countless Kang variants, bringing a multiverse concept from the comics into live-action. Quantumania’s post-credits scene teased that the Council of Kangs is the real threat to the multiverse, as they were powerful enough to defeat and exile the main Kang the Conqueror. The MCU’s Council of Kangs is led by Rama-Tut, Immortus, and Scarlet Centurion, all of whom have a unique backstory in the comics. Loki may not even encounter those main Kang variants, but the Council of Kangs could be the villains behind the shadows.
7 Ravonna Renslayer Joins Kang Loki season 1’s Ravonna Renslayer was one of the biggest hints that Kang the Conqueror was somehow involved with the TVA. In the comics, Kang falls in love with and marries Ravonna, a princess from an alternate reality who lived in the 40th century. Despite being one of the TVA bosses, Loki season 1’s Ravonna did not know the truth about He Who Remains. Loki season 2 is set to explore Ravonna’s backstory, which could lead to her connection with Kang the Conqueror being explored at a later point in the season. Even if Kang and Ravonna are not a couple in the MCU, they could still work together.
6 Loki Season 2 Reveals Kang The Conqueror’s Backstory In-universe, Kang the Conqueror’s backstory can be quite confusing, especially because it often involves retcons. The idea of different versions of Kang started off as a retcon, after all – Fantastic Four’s Rama-Tut retroactively became Kang’s first comic book appearance. So far, the MCU has not explored Kang the Conqueror’s backstory, even though it has been dealing with Kang since Loki season 1. Understandably, revealing Kang’s backstory too soon risks spoiling the character’s future and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty as a whole. Still, considering that Quantumania revealed virtually nothing about Kang’s MCU story, Loki season 2 could go for a different route. Through Loki and Mobius’ adventures, the MCU can finally reveal Kang's origins.
5 Kang Will Kill Mobius Loki season 1 redefined the titular character by introducing two new central people in Loki’s life, Mobius and Sylvie. Considering that Sylvie is responsible for opening the doors of the multiverse to Kang and his variants, her story might only be concluded in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or even Avengers: Secret Wars. Therefore, if Loki season 2 wants to raise the stakes and make Loki’s story even more tragic, it could see Kang killing Mobius. One Quantumania complaint was that Kang was not scary enough, as he was easily defeated by the Ant-Man family. As such, a Kang variant killing Mobius a fan-favorite MCU character, could make the villain more menacing.
4 Loki Season 2 Will Seen An Incursion (Or Multiple) Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Incursions brought an important comic book concept to the MCU ahead of Avengers: Secret Wars. Incursions, when two or more realities collide leading to the destruction of at least one of them, were central to the 2015 Secret Wars comic book event. Quantumania’s Kang namedropped Incursions when talking about the multiverse, all but confirming that the MCU’s Secret Wars will deal with Incursions. Loki season 2 could see one or more Incursions happening, especially because He Who Remains is no longer guarding the MCU’s Sacred Timeline against the rest of the multiverse. This would set up just how dangerous Kang can be to the multiverse.
3 Loki Season 2 Will Introduce Battleworld Assuming that Loki season 2 will set up the next Avengers movies, the show could introduce, or at least tease, Battleworld. In the comics, Battleworld was the result of multiple fallen worlds being patched together into one. Each of those individual worlds had been destroyed by an Incursion. Battleword might be the easiest way for The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars to feature as many multiverse crossovers as possible, with multiple different worlds coming together in one single location. If Battleworld appears in Loki season 2, the show would lead right into Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
2 The TVA Will Be Destroyed In Loki Season 2 For Incursions of Battleworld to happen in Loki season 2, the TVA will likely have to cease to exist. Even though Sylvie killed He Who Remains, the TVA still exists somewhere in the multiverse and is now seemly led by Kang the Conqueror. Perhaps the only for Loki and Mobious to break free of the TVA and weaken Kang will be to destroy the entire operation, freeing all of the TVA agents in the process. What would the consequences of TVA’s destruction be is difficult to say, but it could tie into Incursions or the formation of Battleworld ahead of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
1 Loki Will Warn The Avengers About Kang The Avengers’ MCU history began when Thanos sent Loki to conquer Earth. Now, the Multiverse Saga can truly begin with Loki warning the Avengers about Kang in Loki season 2. Loki returning to the MCU's main timeline to warn the Avengers about Kang would bring the God of Mischief’s story full circle, as Loki was the first Avengers villain. Of course, Ant-Man and Wasp will probably brief the Avengers on Kang after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's ending. Still, Scott and Hope believe that Kang is dead, whereas Loki knows the full extent of the Kang threat. Loki returning to the MCU’s main timeline can kick off the events for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
