10 Things Ms. Marvel Season 2 Needs To Have If It Happens

Summary
  • Ms. Marvel season 2 should delve deeper into Kamala's supporting characters, such as Bruno and Nakia, who played crucial roles in season 1.
  • Kamala needs to reclaim her mask in season 2 to protect her secret identity, especially as she faces more dangerous enemies.
  • The second season should explore Kamala's family dynamic and how they support her as she navigates her superhero life, reflecting her core values.
Marvel Studios has yet to confirm whether Ms. Marvel season 2 will happen, but there’s no shortage of plot points for the series to cover if it were to get renewed. Kamala Khan was first introduced to the MCU when the Ms. Marvel miniseries first premiered on Disney+ in 2022. Though some viewers were mixed, the show had a generally positive overall reception. It’d be unsurprising if the show got a second season with how Ms. Marvel season 1 ended, especially with Marvel Studios’ overhaul of television production including more multi-season formats.
Ms. Marvel has yet to be renewed for a season 2 but actress Iman Vellani has stated that she is hopeful, telling THR, “I would absolutely love to continue this story, and Kamala and her entire community has so much story left to tell.” With Ms. Marvel’s recent big screen debut in The Marvels, the film opened many doors for Kamala’s character that could lead into a second season of her solo series. From the character development Kamala has undergone, to The Marvels ending setup, there’s plenty of content that Ms. Marvel season 2 could run with.

10 Ms. Marvel Season 2 Should Explore Supporting Characters More Bruno And Nakia Were Highlights Of Season 1 Close Despite the gripes audiences had with Ms. Marvel and the disappointing performance of The Marvels at the box office, it can generally be agreed that Vellani has been a bright spot for the MCU and shines on her own. However, Ms. Marvel showed that some of Kamala’s best moments came when she was bouncing off of her best friends. The Ms. Marvel cast has such a strong set of supporting characters that season 2 of the series could explore more in-depth.
Bruno and Nakia proved to be loyal friends, supporting Kamala in her journey and sticking by her side the entire series. If Kamala is to return to the MCU, Bruno and Nakia should undoubtedly make appearances, even if Bruno is at Caltech. Season 2 of Ms. Marvel should still be a study of Kamala’s character, but her best friends could factor into the story more with how important they are to her. Considering the supporting character Kamran is still alive with his season 1 ending left vague, season 2 could bring him back as well.
9 Ms. Marvel Needs To Get Her Mask Back Kamala Khan Still Has A Secret Identity From the conceptualization of Kamala’s hero persona, she has always included a mask element in her designs. The very first costume she and Bruno designed for AvengerCon included a helmet with a built-in mask, which eventually came in handy when she accidentally activated her powers. From that moment, hiding her identity became important and Kamala had a mask on whenever she acted as Ms. Marvel for the rest of the season. Especially as a street-level hero, hiding her identity is extremely important in protecting her personal life along with her family and friends.
The absence of Ms. Marvel’s mask in The Marvels actually makes sense as Kamala was sent into space unprepared, and she had no real need for it in the galaxy. However, Kamala will need to bring back the mask if she were to return for Ms. Marvel season 2. The Marvels showed how Ms. Marvel is on others’ radars and a mask would be essential in keeping Kamala’s identity a secret, especially if she were to move onto more dangerous enemies.
8 Kamala’s Family Should Play A Bigger Role In Her Superhero Life The Khans Were A Highlight Of The Marvels Close Ms. Marvel season 1 showed that family will always be the core of Kamala’s character. Although she started the series feeling restricted by her parents, she cares for them and her brother very deeply. Surprisingly, the Khans played a decently large role in The Marvels and were a highlight of the film because of their natural banter and comedic timing. However, they also factored into a more serious plot point for Kamala.
The Khans showed great concern for Kamala’s well-being as she was thrust into space on a potentially world-saving mission. Considering how young Ms. Marvel is compared to most other MCU heroes, the worried family dynamic that surrounds her is incredibly realistic. The hero life has already taken its toll, and it would make sense thatMs. Marvel season 2 focuses on how the Khans help Kamala navigate her newfound superhero life while trying to fight their own fears for their daughter.
7 Ms. Marvel Can Gain Her Comic-Accurate Powers Kamala’s Power Change Is Controversial Close One of the biggest criticisms of Ms. Marvel season 1 was the change in Kamala’s powers. In the Marvel comics, Ms. Marvel has the ability to manipulate parts of her body. She can alter the size of her whole body or elongate certain limbs, often stretching her arms or making her fists bigger. Ms. Marvel’s biggest change from the comics was the complete change in Kamala’s powers, making them stem from hard light instead. There are plenty of reasons the MCU chose to alter Ms. Marvel’s powers, but it is still a controversial decision that Ms. Marvel fans debate to this day.
Though unlikely, Ms. Marvel season 2 could potentially change Kamala’s powers to be more comic-accurate. The main reason the MCU changed her powers seemed to be so Ms. Marvel had a tie to Captain Marvel and Monica Rambeau for The Marvels, but the collective connection to light powers isn’t needed anymore. Whether it be a villain coming in and shaking things up or Kamala’s mutant gene evolving and unlocking her true powers, Ms. Marvel season 2 would give the MCU the platform to flesh out a power change before Ms. Marvel plays a larger role in the general MCU.
6 Ms. Marvel’s New Relationship With Captain Marvel Should Be Referenced Kamala Finally Got To Work With Her Idol A core part of Kamala’s character is her love and admiration for Captain Marvel. Her hero persona is based on Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel season 1 showed that Kamala’s ultimate dream was to work with her. This dream came true as the two teamed up in The Marvels, with Kamala beyond ecstatic to finally meet her idol. Along with Monica, they proved to work well together and Kamala even served as a learning curve for Carol in regards to teamwork.
The Marvels ended with the Khans helping Carol move into Maria Rambeau’s old home, showing how close Kamala and Carol have gotten. Going back to Jersey City will undoubtedly be less exciting than being in space with Captain Marvel, so Kamala will definitely think back to their time together. Whether it’s her telling her best friends about her experience or actually keeping in touch with Carol herself, Ms. Marvel season 2 should at least reference Kamala’s newfound friendship with Captain Marvel.
5 Kamala Khan's X-Gene Needs To Be Explained In Ms. Marvel Season 2 There Are Unanswered Questions About Ms. Marvel's X-Gene When Kamala says goodbye to Bruno before he leaves for Caltech in the Ms. Marvel season 1 finale, he reveals that he did some tests on her family’s genetic makeup. Unlike her parents and brother, Kamala has something different in her DNA that Bruno describes as a mutation. Though the MCU has alluded to their presence in the past, it was the first time that the franchise actually used the mutation term.
Related Marvel Still Hasn't Properly Explained Mutants In The MCU The confirmation of mutants in the MCU is exciting, but so far Marvel hasn"t clarified what exactly it means to be a mutant in the cinematic universe.
Making Ms. Marvel the MCU’s first confirmed mutant is clearly how the franchise intends to slowly introduce the X-Men, but there is still a lot of explanation that Kamala’s character will need. Kamala having the X-Gene is yet another big change to her character as her comic counterpart was originally an Inhuman. Without having the comic lore as a backup reference, Ms. Marvel season 2 would have to answer the questions about Kamala’s X-Gene, such as how she got it and why it was awoken.
4 Ms. Marvel’s Full Power Potential Needs To Be Explored Kamala Now Has Both Quantum Bands In Ms. Marvel season 1, Kamala only has one of her grandma’s bangles. Though the sole bangle proved to be powerful enough on its own, it begged the question of where the other bangle was. The Marvels answered this question pretty quickly with Dar-Benn finding the other bangle in space. Kamala finally gets her hands on both of them after the Marvels’ face-off against Dar-Benn, using both newly dubbed Quantum Bands to help energize Monica to close the hole in the multiverse.
It can safely be assumed that Kamala has kept possession of both Quantum Bands and will take them back home with her. It was a learning curve for her in season 1 to figure out how to control the power of one bangle, so navigating the power of two would be a natural plot point for a potential Ms. Marvel season 2. The MCU should properly explore her journey in mastering both Quantum Bands, finishing with Ms. Marvel finally reaching her full potential.
3 Ms. Marvel Season 2 Needs To Mention The X-Men They Were Officially Teased In The Marvels The X-Men have been making brief cameos in recent MCU movies and shows, slowly teasing the franchise’s official introduction of the team. Ms. Marvel season 1 was actually one of the first projects to reference the team as the X-Men theme played when Bruno told Kamala about her mutant gene. Previously, Professor X had a cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but the most recent X-Men tease was at the end of The Marvels with Kelsey Grammer’s Beast.
Considering that Ms. Marvel is the MCU’s first confirmed mutant, it makes sense that a member of the X-Men would make an appearance in a project she's involved in. The MCU’s next slated film is Deadpool 3, in which the X-Men character Wolverine will be making an appearance. By the time of a potential Ms. Marvel season 2, there will likely be a lot more in-universe set-up of the X-Men. If season 2 rightfully explores Kamala’s X-Gene and mutant status, the show would undoubtedly have to mention the X-Men in some way.
2 Ms. Marvel Season 2 Needs To Address The Young Avengers Setup Kate Bishop Could Appear In Season 2 At the end of The Marvels, Kamala is shown trying to round up an Avengers-like team of her own. She talks with Kate Bishop about the team, also referencing Scott Lang’s daughter Cassie. Just like Nick Fury did with the original Avengers, Kamala clearly did her research on these individuals, which means that she dedicated a lot of time to her idea. Ms. Marvel season 2 would have to address Kamala’s Young Avengers team as it’s likely the main project she’s currently working on.
Ms. Marvel season 2 focuing on Kamala’s creation of the Young Avengers would open the door to plenty of guest appearances. Considering she has already talked to Kate, the archer could be an established member of Kamala’s team by the time of Ms. Marvel season 2 and could set up a Hailee Steinfeld appearance. The season could focus on the two of them recruiting other Young Avengers members, such as the aforementioned Cassie or Riri Williams.
1 Ms. Marvel Season 2 Should Connect More To The MCU Kamala Knows More Marvel Heroes Now Season 1 of Ms. Marvel was a pretty self-contained show as Kamala was just adapting to her powers and acting as more of a street-level hero. However, The Marvels has launched her onto a bigger stage. Now having relationships with heroes like Captain Marvel and connections to important figures like Nick Fury, a second season of Ms. Marvel would have to connect to the larger MCU in some way. Especially with her trying to assemble a Young Avengers team, season 2 would definitely have to address bigger MCU concepts to establish Ms. Marvel’s place in the franchise’s future.
Ms. Marvel season 1 is currently available to stream on Disney+.
With how The Marvels ended for Kamala Khan, there are plenty of options for a potential Ms. Marvel season 2. From exploring more of her X-Gene to following her creation of the Young Avengers, Ms. Marvel has no shortage of MCU storylines and would greatly benefit from a second season of her solo series to properly flesh them out. Though a second season of Ms. Marvel has yet to be confirmed by Marvel, there is hope given how well-received Kamala has been in the MCU so far.
