Star Wars" New Republic Was A Failure From The Beginning
Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for The Mandalorian, season 3, episode 5.The Mandalorian season 3 is giving fans a better look at the New Republic than the sequel trilogy ever did, and it ended up validating just how much the young government failed the people it was meant to protect. Many systems saw the New Republic as a ray of hope after the darkness caused by the Empire, yet ultimately, it was obliterated by the First Order in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In addition to telling Din Djarin and Grogu’s tale, The Mandalorian is also exploring the plethora of bad decisions that led up to the New Republic’s demise.
The Mandalorian has already begun to paint the New Republic in a much different light than what fans imagined. For example, Dr. Pershing’s subplot in The Mandalorian season 3, episode 3 showed that the New Republic utilized Mind Flayers in order to erase memories of the Empire. Rather than address the psychological damage done by the Empire, the people of the New Republic largely chose to ignore and forget the atrocities that the regime had committed in favor of dreaming up a better future. In the end, they learned nothing from history and ensured the mistakes of the past would be repeated.
