Star Wars Needs To Decide Whether Ahsoka Is A Jedi Or Not

Summary
  • Ahsoka Tano has consistently maintained that she is not a Jedi, despite her lightsabers and ability to wield the Force.
  • The Ahsoka series has blurred the lines regarding Ahsoka's Jedi identity, sometimes suggesting she is a Jedi and other times affirming she is not.
  • While Ahsoka herself denies being a Jedi, those around her, including the New Republic and Grand Admiral Thrawn, treat her like one, creating ambiguity about her true identity.
The Ahsoka series has long since been insisting that Rosario Dawson's Ahsoka Tano is not a Jedi, yet the Star Wars Disney+ TV show has tried to prove otherwise. Ahsoka has long since been one of Star Wars' most interesting and beloved characters, especially following her departure from the Jedi Order. She's taken after her master, Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), in many ways, but has also created her own path in the galaxy. One thing that she's always insisted is that she's not a Jedi, regardless of her lightsabers and ability to wield the Force.
The Ahsoka series, however, has clouded this belief. In some places, it agrees with this sentiment that Ahsoka is not a Jedi, but in others, it seems to suggest the very opposite. As a Star Wars character with one of the richest and most well-known histories in the galaxy, it should be easy to figure out what Ahsoka's identity is, but it's getting more and more difficult to do so. Is Ahsoka a Jedi, or is she still keeping herself distant from that old identity?

And Never Returned Ahsoka is open about the fact she left the Jedi Order behind in Ahsoka, even telling Hera Syndulla (May Elizabeth Winstead) that she never actually finished her training. This is why Ahsoka doesn't consider herself to be a Jedi, as she so infamously said to Darth Vader during their duel on Malachor in Star Wars Rebels. When Ray Stevenson's Baylan Skoll echoes this idea in Ahsoka by saying "We are no Jedi," it's meant to show that he's a twisted mirror image of Ahsoka, the darker former Jedi version of who Ahsoka considers herself to be. She is no Jedi, and neither are Baylan or Shin.
