Star Wars is finally hinting how the powers of the High Repubilc's monstrous Force predators work, and it may set up a new dark side ability for the galaxy far, far away. During this period, the most powerful threat to the Jedi Order came from dark creatures who prey on Force-sensitives. Now, it's been suggested that their abilities are a manipulation of the Force itself.
The High Republic began as an age of peace and prosperity for both the Republic and the Jedi Order. However, the emergence of the marauders known as the Nihil quickly became the galaxy's predominant danger. This was largely due to a formidable combination of the Nihil's unique hyperdrive technology and the Nameless. Known in ancient times as Shrii Ka Rai or "Eaters of the Force", the Nameless were powerful creatures capable of overwhelming and killing several members of the Jedi Order. Now, NYCC's Lucasfilm Publishing panel has provided a preview page from The High Republic Character Encyclopedia, providing new insights into the Nameless' powers.

The Nameless' Effect On Jedi Explained The Nihil's control over the Nameless was very much responsible for the fall of the Jedi's Starlight Beacon, its destruction featured at the end of the High Republic's first phase of novels and comics. Constantly hungering the Force itself, the Nameless can completely paralyze a Jedi when they're in proximity. Following overwhelming fear and terror often combined with dark visions, the Nameless will feed on a Jedi's Force energy until their victim becomes literally petrified to death, becoming nothing more than a crumbling stone husk.
This new character page reveals that the Nameless have been hunting Force sensitives for much longer than the High Republic era alone. Apparently, they've been part of Jedi myth and legend "since time immemorial". Likewise, it's also rumored that the Nameless origins connect to an unknown world hidden within the far reaches of Wild Space. However, the page also implies that the Nameless' power may extend beyond the creatures themselves.
