Without O'Hara's knowledge, his disgruntled employer Tyler Stone sabotages the machine, causing it to alter O'Hara's genetic code with 50% spider DNA. This gifts him spider-like abilities in a very unorthodox way.
The more natural evolution of his abilities - with his own genetic code being altered - means that Miguel O'Hara took on more characteristics reminiscent of actual spiders. This included fangs, venom, enhanced vision with red eyes, and organic webbing created within his body, which were all adapted into the hardened, villainous design for Spider-Man 2099 in cross the Spider-Verse.
