Moon Knight will appear in What If...? season 3, and I believe that if his appearance in the animated series is loved, Marvel could go back to developing Moon Knight season 2. That said, there has to be a major change.

That had me excited about the series, as I think the character works in the comics because of his darkness. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige even made big Moon Knight promises. The executive claimed that the series would mark a tonal shift from what the MCU usually did, saying, "He’s brutal... This is a different thing. This is Moon Knight.” Sadly, I do not think Moon Knight lived up to that.
The series cut to the Jake Lockley alter of the character to do all the killing and returned to Steven Grant or Marc Spector when the fight was over, which was a major issue of the finale
I enjoyed the series and want to see it return, but the show never went as dark as Netflix's The Defenders Saga did, and based on Feige's comments, I was expecting something more in that direction. Moon Knight had some cool and violent fight scenes, but when the show could go all in on those brutal moments, Marvel used an awful plot device. The series cut to the Jake Lockley alter of the character to do all the killing and returned to Steven Grant or Marc Spector when the fight was over, which was a major issue of the finale.

I’m Excited For More R-Rated MCU Projects After Deadpool & Wolverine The Movie Can Inspire More Mature MCU Projects Close Moon Knight's rating ended up limiting how much Marvel could do with the show. That is why projects like Disney's Echo, Marvel Studios' first TV-MA series, and Deadpool & Wolverine, the MCU's first R-rated movie, have me excited about Moon Knight season 2. In 2022, Marvel had no parameter to see if making Moon Knight TV-MA would sit well with audiences, MCU-wise. However, it now has, with the studio's first R-rated movie already becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, beating DC's Joker for the crown.
Echo was also received decently, and I think that series' issues could have been made better with more episodes to properly flesh out its story and characters. Moon Knight season 2 being TV-MA — with more than 6 episodes — could lead to the ideal version of Oscar Isaac's Marvel character making it to the big screen. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Kevin Feige teased that there could be more R-rated projects in the MCU if the rating is appropriate for the character and fits the DNA of the hero or villain in question.

6 A TV-MA Moon Knight Season 2 Would Be Perfect It Would Fit The Direction The Marvel Series Is Headed In Close If Moon Knight season 2 ends up happening, then season 1's ending has already set up a change perfectly to TV-MA. The season ended with Jake Lockley finally appearing and killing Ethan Hawke's Arthur Harrow in cold blood. The character was doing so on Khonshu's orders, something Marc Spector and Steven Grant are not aware of. Seeing how Moon Knight season 1 made it a point to show that Jake was the most violent of the character's alters, season 2 focusing more on him should be quite bloody.
I would love to see Oscar Isaac in this darker version of the show. The actor is one of Hollywood's best right now, and having him portray three very different versions of the same character with more leeway to delve into mature elements would be fantastic. Moon Knight season 2 could not only be more violent than season 1 but also more tragic, doing a deep dive into what makes all three alters tick. I think that could be one of Marvel's best shows, and so I hope Deadpool & Wolverine's success leads to a TV-MA Moon Knight season 2.
