Marvel Can Still Make Charlie Cox’s 2-Year-Old Daredevil Romance Wish Come True

Charlie Cox wants one iconic Marvel romance for Daredevil in the MCU, and Marvel Studios could actually make it happen. Charlie Cox's Daredevil has become one of Marvel's most popular live-action properties since his debut in 2015's Daredevil series on Netflix, which made his return to the MCU in Phase 4 even more spectacular. So far, Matt Murdock has shared the screen with Spider-Man, She-Hulk and Echo, but Charlie Cox wants Daredevil to join forces with another iconic MCU hero.
Let's face it, Daredevil is a bit of a player. Both in Marvel Comics and in the MCU's live-action stories, Matt Murdock has been around the block, as Daredevil has formed romantic relationships with the likes of Elektra, Claire Temple, Karen Page and, most recently, Jennifer Walters' She-Hulk, and Charlie Cox expressed his wishes to add another romance into the mix two years ago. Despite the tragic events of Avengers: Endgame, which may have made this romance impossible to explore, Marvel Studios could still make Charlie Cox's Black Widow dreams come true.

Charlie Cox Wanted Daredevil & Black Widow’s Romance To Be Explored In The MCU Daredevil & Black Widow Were Romantically Involved In The 1970s Close During an interview with Comicbook.com in March 2022, Charlie Cox was asked which team-up from Marvel Comics he wanted to see Daredevil take part in in the MCU. While he notes that Spider-Man is the obvious answer, Cox also stated that he'd want to see "the Daredevil/Black Widow stuff." More than just a one-off tryst, Daredevil and Black Widow's relationship in Marvel Comics was a transformative experience for both parties, so it would be fantastic for this to somehow be implemented into the MCU.
I really like the Black Widow, the Daredevil/Black Widow stuff. That relationship is really funny to me, I don't know why. I find it really funny and sexy at the same time.
Natasha Romanoff's Black Widow joined Matt Murdock in 1971's Daredevil #81 following the Man Without Fear's relocation to San Francisco. Romanoff became Daredevil's co-star in a series written by Gerry Conway and Gene Colan, and was featured as the hero's love interest, which was solidified after Murdock's relationship with Karen Page fell apart. Daredevil and Black Widow ultimately grew apart, too, but this relationship had a huge impact on both their futures, for better or worse, so could be huge for the MCU.
Daredevil Could Team Up With Yelena Belova In The MCU’s Future Florence Pugh Will Return As Yelena Belova In 2025's Thunderbolts* Movie It seems impossible for Matt Murdock's relationship with Natasha Romanoff to be explored in the MCU, given the fact that Romanoff sacrificed herself in 2019's Avengers: Endgame. However, Romanoff was never the only Black Widow in the MCU, so it's very possible that her role in Daredevil and Black Widow's romance from Marvel Comics could be adapted for a different version of the antihero, perhaps Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova. Belova was introduced in 2021's Black Widow as Romanoff's surrogate sister, and is expected to have a big role in the MCU going forward.

Both Cox's Daredevil and Pugh's Yelena Belova are, and will continue to be, prominent street-level heroes in the MCU. Matt Murdock will make his next appearance in 2025's Daredevil: Born Again, while Belova has a crucial role in 2025's Thunderbolts*, and these Phase 5 projects could begin to align the pair's stories. Replacing Romanoff with Yelena Belova in the MCU would be the perfect way to give Charlie Cox his wish of adapting Daredevil and Black Widow's relationship, and this could form one of the MCU's most significant new pairings.
Yelena Belova & Matt Murdock Could Be The MCU’s Newest Power Couple Daredevil & Black Widow's Romance Could Be Transformative For The MCU Marvel Studios has adapted some of the most iconic romances from Marvel Comics into the live-action MCU over the years, but the relationship between Daredevil and Black Widow is perhaps the most significant that hasn't yet been seen. For the four years between Daredevil #81 and Daredevil #124 (1971-1975), Daredevil and Black Widow were practically joined at the hip, and even lived together. Adapting this romance for the MCU would drastically alter the trajectories of both damaged characters for the better.
Marvel Studios could begin to plant the seeds of this relationship very soon.
While there is a 13-year age difference between Charlie Cox (41) and Florence Pugh (28), Pugh's MCU character is actually in her mid-thirties, which means it is not at all far-fetched to imagine her connecting with Matt Murdock's Daredevil romantically. Both Murdock and Belova are morally questionable but skilled fighters, so this pairing would contribute to some of the MCU's most dramatic and intense action sequences yet. It's unclear exactly when Daredevil and Belova's new Black Widow could join forces, but Marvel Studios could begin to plant the seeds of this relationship very soon.
