The story of
Agatha All Along has seen many of its characters utter exceptional and memorable quotes. Following up on the intriguing MCU introduction of Agatha Harkness in 2021’s WandaVision, Agatha All Along put the magical villain firmly in the spotlight. Alongside the titular witch, Agatha All Along’s cast of characters include multiple magic users, establishing a much wider magical community within the MCU timeline than had previously been explored.
The show is packed with memorable and powerful characters, each with their own individual quirks. As with many other movies and TV shows of the MCU, Agatha All Along has seen its share of witty, clever, or otherwise powerful writing, with a number of memorable lines uttered by its characters. With all of that in mind, here are the 10 best quotes from Agatha All Along, ranked.
10 “I Can Be That Witch Again.” Agatha Harkness, season 1, episode 2, "Circle Sewn With Fate / Unlock Thy Hidden Gate"
Though an early quote in the series, this line perfectly sets out Agatha’s intention and her drive to regain her abilities. After recovering her memories and breaking free from Wanda’s spell, she is faced with a difficult choice. Opting to pursue the dangerous option of risking life and limb to get her power back, Agatha calmly asserts that she “can be that witch again”.
The quote speaks to Agatha’s drive and her stubborn streak, but also to how much being a witch means to her. Though she has undeniably acted as a villain, her willingness to risk everything to regain her power makes her seem far more sympathetic than she otherwise might have been.
Knowing that her abilities mean so much to her is crucial for Agatha All Along’s story, particularly as the quote comes to define her journey across the series.
9 “Last One There Is A Nice Person.” Agatha Harkness, season 1, episode 6, "Familiar by Thy Side" Since being introduced, Agatha Harkness has never pretended to be a hero. She fully embraces her status as a villain, nurturing her inclination to self-serving deeds and the occasionally cruel manipulation of others. It’s a role that Kathryn Hahn plays perfectly, but it’s also one that has been expertly written into her MCU story. Nowhere is this more evident than when she tells Wiccan to head for the next trial, telling him: “last one there’s a nice person.”
It’s a childish comment that speaks to the deepest parts of Agatha’s character. It’s an outward acknowledgment of her villainous streak, but it’s also an admittance of her willingness to play the role. The context of the scene leading up to the quote actually makes it seem as though this is all a smokescreen for something much more complex. Agatha’s need to be seen as a villain is one of the most fascinating parts of her character, and her quote taps directly into that idea.
8 “We’ll Be Safe As Kittens. Okay?” Agatha Harkness, season 1, episode 3, "Through Many Miles / Of Tricks and Trials"
Part of Agatha All Along’s charm is in its sense of humor, even in the face of apparent magical danger. The show makes use of Kathryn Hahn’s extensive comedic repertoire, utilizing its lead actor to make its eponymous witch an especially witty part of its ensemble. In one particular moment, Agatha is persuading her coven to walk the Witches’ Road, sarcastically telling them: “we’ll be safe as kittens. Okay?”
The quote seemingly has a dual meaning, which doesn’t become evident until later in the series. At first glance,
it’s Agatha attempting to cajole her fellow witches along the road with a seemingly innocent yet sarcastic remark. By the ending of Agatha All Along, it appears to be a hint that Agatha knew the road was of Billy’s creation, and that she trusted no harm would come to her. Even so, it’s a line that remains funny in its simplicity.
7 “Because The Truth Is Too Awful.” Agatha Harkness, season 1, episode 8, "Follow Me My Friend / To Glory at the End"
The character of Agatha Harkness is a complex one. For all her villainy, one thing that becomes clear over the course of Agatha All Along is that she’s far more layered than she initially seemed in her WandaVision debut. There’s a nuanced element to her backstory that’s as tragic as practically any other MCU character, and it’s in reference to this that one of the show’s best quotes is uttered.
When asked by Rio why Agatha allows the others to think so negatively of her, she simply replies: “because the truth is too awful.” The later reveal of exactly what she’s referring to within her past only adds to the complexity of her character, and also offers context for her own troubled relationship with death.
Not wanting others to see the vulnerabilities of her past only serves to make Agatha even more intriguing, particularly as it’s connected to her heartbreaking past.
6 “The Bodies Are Really Piling Up.” Rio Vidal, season 1, episode 8, "Follow Me My Friend / To Glory at the End"
When first heard in Agatha All Along’s trailer, Rio Vidal’s assessment that “the bodies are really piling up” seemed a bleak assessment of the dangers the show’s characters would face. The early episodes of the show teased the perils of the Witches’ Road, making it seem all the more likely that it would claim lives before the series’ end. However, the ending of Agatha All Along episode 7 reframed the quote in a fascinating new light.
The reveal that Rio is in fact Lady Death put a unique spin on the line. What once seemed an acknowledgment of the dark dangers faced along the road, was in fact an observation made by a character who reveled in the deaths of Agatha All Along’s witches. Though it initially appeared to be an innocent enough line,
its place in the show actually saw it take on an entirely new meaning than it did in the trailer.
5 “Claw Your Way Out.” Rio Vidal, season 1, episode 1, "Seekest Thou the Road" The events of WandaVision may have been followed up on by multiple movies in the MCU, but the specific plot thread of the spell Wanda trapped Agatha in had yet to be resolved ahead of Agatha All Along’s release. The first episode showed a powerless Agatha still trapped inside Wanda’s illusion, encountering new characters who seemed intent on pulling her back to reality. One of these was Rio Vidal, who senses Agatha breaking through, and emphatically tells her: “claw your way out.”
Considering where Agatha’s story was left after WandaVision, it’s a great quote.
It speaks to the strength of will that Agatha possesses, as well as Rio’s own desire to see Harkness return to her former self. It was a superb way to begin Agatha All Along’s story in earnest, as it brought her back to the MCU’s reality in a striking and memorable scene.
4 “Am I William Or Am I Billy?” Wiccan, season 1, episode 7, "Death's Hand in Mine"
One of the core mysteries at the center of Agatha All Along’s story was the identity of the character originally known only as Teen. The early reveal of the sigil hex placed on him created a question over his true identity, with a later reveal confirming him to be the reincarnation of Billy Maximoff in the body of William Kaplan. Agatha All Along episode 6 of the series outlines his story, with the characters then reeling from the revelation throughout episode 7.
During a tarot reading, Wiccan is forced to ask a question. The one he asks is the most pertinent in Agatha All Along: “am I William, or am I Billy?”
The character’s true identity, and his difficulty in reconciling the two sets of memories from two different people, are key elements of his story, and the quote is a succinct evaluation of this predicament.
3 “Not Looking For Right-Minded Witches, As It Happens.” Agatha Harkness, season 1, episode 2, "Circle Sewn With Fate / Unlock Thy Hidden Gate"
Shortly after breaking free from Wanda’s spell, Agatha sets off with Teen to gather a cover in preparation for walking the Witches’ Road. Given her reputation and the road’s notoriety, this proves difficult, with Lilia telling Agatha that no witch in their right mind would walk the Road with her. Agatha quickly replies: “Not looking for right-minded witches, as it happens.”
On first inspection, it’s a line that marks Agatha as a witty and unflappable character unperturbed by the danger of the Witches’ Road. However, the later reveal that the Road was a myth used by Agatha to prey on naive witches gives the line a double meaning.
Agatha wanted witches with a temper or a trusting streak to ensnare and drain of their power, making the once witty remark seem far more predatory and sinister on a second look.
2 “I Loved Being A Witch.” Lilia Calderu, season 1, episode 7, "Death's Hand in Mine" Considering multiple characters either have tragic origins revealed or experience untimely deaths over the course of Agatha All Along’s story, it’s no surprise that one of the show’s best quotes comes as the final words of a main character. Lilia is one of the most valuable members of the coven, with her clairvoyance coming to the rescue of the collective on numerous occasions. Faced with her own death, Lilia meets it head on, defiantly announcing to her coven: “I loved being a witch.”
Lilia’s heroic death immediately after the quote saw her stop the Salem Seven and embrace the ending of her story in unforgettable fashion. The time-bending manner of the episode only confirms the inevitability of Lilia’s death, though it certainly doesn’t make her sacrifice any less noble.
Her final quote is one that cements her as a powerful and courageous witch who lived and died selflessly for her fellow magic users.
1 “You Survived, Like Witches Have Been Doing For Centuries.” Agatha Harkness, season 1, episode 6, "Familiar by Thy Side"
With Agatha All Along fully exploring the MCU’s community of witches, it stepped into relatively unexplored territory. The cross-section of dark real-world history with the fantastical stories of the MCU could potentially have been incredibly complex. However, in one exchange, Agatha counsels a conflicted Wiccan, explaining to him not to feel guilty, because he “survived, like witches have been doing for centuries.”
As well as sounding incredibly cool, it references the persecution of witches throughout human history. What’s more, later developments reveal the statement to be deeply hypocritical, as Agatha is revealed to have killed more witches than presumably any other figure in the MCU. As such, it’s one of the best and most nuanced quotes in the entirety of
Agatha All Along, not just for the way it blurs the lines between the MCU and reality, but for what it means for Agatha as a character.
