This article contains spoilers for Abbott Elementary season 4, episode 4, "Costume Contest."
Abbott Elementary season 4"s Halloween episode indirectly mocks Marvel for the continuous issues regarding the
Blade film.
The students and teachers at Abbott Elementary School are celebrating Halloween this year with a costume contest, which pushes the teachers to go all out with their ideas. Melissa Schemmenti does a "couple"s costume" with her guinea pig, Sweet Cheeks, while Abbott Elementary illustrates how Janine and Gregory have officially become boring, but in a good way. Jacob dresses as Pat Sajak, while Barbara opts to be a bumblebee.
While the Abbott Elementary season 4 cast is creative with their costumes,
Ava Coleman might have the best costume, arriving as Marvel"s iconic antihero, Blade. Ava easily wins the adult costume contest later that evening; her attire is a huge hit. It is also a fascinating choice for Ava to dress up as Blade, given the recent notorious production struggles that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has had with their new Blade movie. It is no secret that Marvel"s Blade movie starring Mahershala Ali has problems, and Abbott Elementary took the opportunity to dig at them.
Ava Gets To Play Blade In Abbott Elementary Before Mahershala Ali In The MCU Ava Coleman Dresses Up As Blade In Abbott Elementary's Halloween Episode Close Ava Coleman dresses up as Marvel"s antihero, Blade, in Abbott Elementary season 4, episode 4, "Costume Contest," which is a notable decision, given the long wait for Marvel"s Blade film. Despite Ava"s successful costume, it is still disappointing that Ava Coleman"s rendition of the popular character debuted before Mahershala Ali"s version. However, the MCU"s Blade movie has had several production delays, attributed to the 2023 WGA and SAG strikes and the directorial and writer changes. Recently, Marvel released an update that confirmed Blade is no longer scheduled for November 7, 2025, and
it is unknown when the movie will premiere.

It is exciting to see Ava as Blade, but it should be in anticipation of Mahershala Ali"s Blade.
Ava's Blade Stint In Abbott Elementary Shows How Easy The Character's On-Screen Appearance Should Be Marvel's Blade Should Not Be This Difficult To Bring To Life Close Although Ava Coleman can make anything look good,
her Blade costume is still a testament to the character"s popularity and the high anticipation of Marvel"s film. Ava"s costume portrays how awesome Blade is—if this is how a teacher would dress up as the character, then Mahershala Ali"s Blade will be even more epic. The MCU should not endure this much trouble to bring Blade to life. Although he is a complex character, he is not difficult to understand, nor is his narrative. Marvel needs to get their act together and deliver the Blade movie that has been long-awaited.
