Only 1 Upcoming MCU Movie Isn"t A Sequel Or Reboot

Out of every future Marvel Cinematic Universe project with confirmed release dates, Thunderbolts is the only upcoming franchise that isn’t a sequel or reboot. The film will be about a team of anti-heroes featuring some already-beloved MCU characters. Though not much else is known about the movie’s story, the team will include the likes of Bucky Barnes, Yelena Belova, U.S. Agent John Walker, and the Red Guardian. The reformed villains will come together under the recruitment of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, all of whom have already been introduced.
While the film is considered a stand-alone, every character who will be part of the Thunderbolts team has been introduced in a previous MCU project. While the MCU has taken major risks in their Disney+ shows with original concepts and brand-new heroes, Marvel has stayed relatively safer with their movies. Sticking with characters that are already familiar in the MCU is a sure way to get audiences to stay invested, but the MCU will only be able to go so far with sequels and reboots going into future phases.
