10 Marvel Heroes That Could Join The MCU’s New Guardians Of The Galaxy

Summary
  • Rocket Raccoon is the new leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy, setting up a new team.
  • The new Guardians could recruit major Marvel characters like Captain Marvel & Thor in the future.
  • Many characters who have been part of the Guardians of the Galaxy in the comics could make for interesting MCU recruits.
A new Guardians of the Galaxy team has made its way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the cosmic squad could do with a few major superhero recruits. James Gunn's work on the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy was impeccable, leading to some of the best and most emotional movies in the MCU. Now, the director has left Marvel to oversee DC Studios. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 also marked the final MCU movie for some cast members.
While Guardians of the Galaxy 4 has yet to be announced, the end of the team's third movie set up a new version of the cosmic hero squad. Rocket Raccoon has replaced Star-Lord as the Guardians of the Galaxy's leader, with Groot also staying alongside him as other characters were revealed to join the team. Besides the already-announced members, the new Guardians of the Galaxy could recruit major Marvel characters in the future.

10 Captain Marvel Carol Danvers' MCU Future Is Up In The Air Close Captain Marvel has never been a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy in the comics, but the MCU could change that. Brie Larson's Carol Danvers has an uncertain future in the MCU after The Marvels bombed at the box office, becoming the lowest-grossing Marvel Studios movie ever. Based on the film's poor performance, another solo entry for Captain Marvel is unlikely, and given how well she worked with a team, the Guardians of the Galaxy could be Carol's best landing spot.
Captain Marvel has had some run-ins with the same characters the Guardians of the Galaxy have in the MCU, such as Ronan the Accuser and Korath the Pursuer. Larson's MCU hero is already based in space, and with Monica Rambeau trapped in another universe, Captain Marvel will need all the help she can get to rescue her, with the Guardians of the Galaxy being the perfect team to assist her.

9 Sentry The Hero Makes His MCU Debut In 2025 Close Sentry is another Marvel character that has never been part of the Guardians of the Galaxy but could do so in the MCU. Lewis Pullman will reportedly play Sentry in 2025's Thunderbolts*, even if the actor is playing coy about his MCU role. Sentry would give the team another powerhouse to match Adam Warlock, though Bob Reynolds, aka Sentry, could also bring in the human side to the team that is missing after Star-Lord left.
Besides filling in for Star-Lord, Sentry could thematically make for a great addition to the team. The MCU's Guardians of the Galaxy are misfits who band together to become family. As Bob Reynolds carries a dark entity within him — the Void — Sentry's journey of self-discovery as the universe's possible most powerful hero or its destroyer would make for great drama for the cosmic team's next project.
Related Thunderbolts Killing Everyone Would Make Marvel's Superman Replacement Even More Exciting Marvel"s Thunderbolts was reportedly planning to kill off the team in the original ending, this would have made the film"s villain much scarier.
8 Nova The Hero's MCU Debut Is Getting Closer Close Nova is bound to be one of the MCU's most prominent cosmic characters whenever he debuts. In recent years, Marvel has started to develop certain corners of its universe. With a high influx of new characters, the MCU has a big enough roster to start developing interconnected stories for different pockets in the comic years, such as corners for street-level, supernatural, and cosmic stories. With a Nova series in development, Richard Rider and the Guardians of the Galaxy could cross paths.
The MCU has already set up the perfect debut for Nova. Thanos' destruction of Xandar opens the door for an MCU version of Rider's origin story, with him inheriting the entire might of the Nova Force. As Nova has been part of the Guardians of the Galaxy in the comics and the MCU team has a relationship with the Nova Corps, Nova would make sense as one of Rocket's recruits.

7 Eros Harry Styles Has Yet To Return To The MCU Close A new Guardians of the Galaxy movie could be the best project for singer/actor Harry Styles to finally play a big role in the MCU. Styles debuted as Eros — Thanos' brother — in one of Eternals' post-credits scenes. Since the MCU movie proved itself controversial, a sequel for Eternals is looking unlikely. However, that does not mean that Styles' MCU future is in check, as Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed there are plans for Styles' Eros.
In the comics, Eros was part of the Dark Guardians version of the Guardians of the Galaxy team. Starfox, aka Eros, served as the leader of the Dark Guardians. The team was put together to stop Thanos from being resurrected. With Thanos dead in the MCU, Eros could join the Guardians of the Galaxy for an adaptation of that storyline, which could bring back the MCU's biggest villain.

6 Silver Surfer Confirmed To Debut In 2025 Close Another interesting Marvel character that could join the new Guardians of the Galaxy team is Silver Surfer. While Norrin Radd is the most famous version of the character, the MCU has announced that it will be taking a different approach with Silver Surfer, at least at first. Ozark's Julia Garner will play the Shalla-Bal version of Silver Surfer in The Fantastic Four. With Galactus in the film, Silver Surfer should be his herald yet again.
However, that is not the limit to what the character could be in the MCU. While Silver Surfer is not commonly a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Shalla-Bal could become a major force in the MCU's cosmic side. After Galactus is defeated by the Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer could be free to roam space. Yearning for connection given the character's tragic backstory, Silver Surfer could do good to offset the destruction Galactus caused by joining Rocket's team.

5 The Thing Avengers: Secret Wars Could Take A Page From The Comics Close Another character set to make his MCU debut in The Fantastic Four who could join the new Guardians of the Galaxy is the Thing. Next year, The Bear's Ebon Moss-Bachrach will play Ben Grimm, aka the Thing, in the MCU's reboot of the Fantastic Four. There have been rumors for some time that Franklin and Valeria Richards — Reed Richards and Sue Storm's kids — will appear in the film, which could eventually make the team too crowded in the MCU.
Avengers: Secret Wars could then lead to a new chapter for the Fantastic Four. After their upcoming movie features the core team, the Avengers film, just like in the comics, could end with the Thing and Johnny Storm not knowing where the rest of the team is. As happened in the comics, the Thing could join the cosmic team. Moss-Bachrach has the comedic skills to excel as a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

4 Quasar The Character's MCU Debut Is More Possible After 1 Movie Close Quasar has been teased by the MCU in the form of the artifacts that give Wendell Vaughn his cosmic powers. First appearing in Disney+'s Ms. Marvel as the mystical bangles that were connected to Kamala Khan's family, The Marvels cemented the artifacts as the MCU's version of the Quantum Bands. In the comics, those artifacts are responsible for imbuing Quasar with a huge power given to him by the entity Eon to serve as his champion.
While Wendell Vaughn is the most famous bearer of the Quasar mantle, there have been others. One of them is already part of the MCU's new Guardians of the Galaxy, as a young Phyla-Vell joined the team at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. It remains to be seen if Phyla will turn into Quasar in the MCU when she grows up.

3 Beta Ray Bill He Has Been Teased In The MCU Close Marvel fans have been asking for Beta Ray Bill to debut in the MCU for quite some time. While he has not appeared onscreen, the character exists in the shared universe, as Beta Ray Bill has already been teased by Marvel. In Thor: Ragnarok, when a monument to all the gladiators who had become champions in Sakaar appeared, Beta Ray Bill's face was carved in the stone, meaning he preceded Hulk as one of Sakaar's champions.
Marvel even planned to have the character appear in the film, though a cameo was scrapped in favor of a real role for Beta Ray Bill down the line. In the comics, the "horse" version of Thor served in a Guardians of the Galaxy team that included MCU members like Ant-Man (Scott Lang), the Thing, and the Punisher — the latter as Cosmic Ghost Rider. Beta Ray Bill's powers and appearance would fit right in with a Guardians of the Galaxy team led by Rocket Raccoon.

2 Wonder Man A DC Star Will Play The MCU Hero Close Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is used to superhero adaptations, though on the DC side of things. The actor played Dr. Manhattan in the acclaimed Watchmen limited series, as well as Black Manta, the main villain of Jason Momoa's Aquaman in the DCEU. While the actor's days as Black Manta are likely over due to the new DC Universe, Abdul-Mateen II joins the MCU as Simon Williams, leading the upcoming Wonder Man series.
Wonder Man will have 10 episodes, though there is no release date set yet for the series. In the comics, the character was part of a version of the Guardians of the Galaxy team under the moniker "Hollywood," which was a reference to his occupation — Williams is an actor. Wonder Man's energy powers and Simon Williams' funny remarks make him a great candidate for the new Guardians of the Galaxy.

1 Thor Chris Hemsworth's Hero Was A Guardians Of The Galaxy Member Close Finally, Thor would make for the best possible new recruit for the MCU's Guardians of the Galaxy. The Asgardian has been a member of the team before, though Thor was not at his best emotionally due to the events of the last two Avengers movies. Now that the God of Thunder is better off, Thor would be a fantastic asset due to his powers, experience, and past relationship with the team's key members.
In Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Thor teamed up with Rocket and Groot to forge Stormbreaker, which Groot used a part of himself to help create. Thor and Rocket connected on a deep emotional level, and after both of them had their respective catharsis in Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Rocket could turn to Thor to give the Guardians of the Galaxy team its most popular new member.
Guardians of the Galaxy 4 Guardians of the Galaxy 4 is the first MCU installment to follow the events of the original team's farewell. After Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 dealt the group of space heroes a tragic and irreversible blow, the following movie marks a new beginning for the Marvel characters who form a new version of the team.
