8 MCU Actors Who Also Appear In Sony"s Spider-Man Universe

Several Marvel Cinematic Universe actors have appeared or will show up soon in Sony's Spider-Man Universe. Sony hit gold with Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire, but after Spider-Man 4 fell through, and Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man movies failed to achieve the same positive reception that Maguire's films did, Sony decided to bring Spider-Man back home, striking a partnership with Marvel Studios and casting Tom Holland as the MCU's Peter Parker. Since then, Sony has started developing their own Spider-Man universe without the hero, and the studio's approach to casting great talent to lead their Spider-Man corner has led to MCU actors jumping universes.
Sony's Spider-Man Universe currently has released three live-action films, Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and Morbius. Announced movies also include Kraven the Hunter, El Muerto, Madame Web, Venom 3, and a Hypno-Hustler film. Sony's expansion plans for their Spider-Man characters will soon lead to the Spider-Man Noir and Silk: Spider Society series on Amazon Prime. Beyond that, Sony has also thrived in the animation medium, with the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the recently released Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and next year's trilogy finale Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Throughout all those projects, Sony has recruited a number of MCU actors for varied roles.
8 Hailee Steinfeld Hailee Steinfeld joined the MCU in 2021's Hawkeye, the Disney+ series that saw Steinfeld's Kate Bishop team up with Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton to go up against the Tracksuit Mafia. Steinfeld's character eventually comes to blows with none other than Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin in the actor's MCU debut after three seasons of Netflix's Daredevil. Before that, Steinfeld had already appeared in Sony's Spider-Man Universe, voicing Gwen Stacy, Spider-Woman, in 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Steinfeld's role in the animated franchise has only grown, with Gwen playing a part as important as Miles Morales' in the recently released Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
7 Brian Tyree Henry Brian Tyree Henry is another actor that first appeared in Sony's Spider Universe before joining the MCU. The actor plays Miles' father, Jefferson Davis, in the Spider-Verse franchise. Davis plays an important part in the new animated film, with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's ending making it clear that the character will be one of the most important to the story of next year's Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. In the MCU, Henry plays Phastos in Eternals, the technological genius of the team. Phastos was important to the Eternals, choosing to stop the Emergence and destruction of Earth, with the character having started a family, which made him side with the humans.
6 Daniel Kaluuya Daniel Kaluuya first appeared in the MCU before joining Sony's Spider-Man Universe. The actor played W'Kabi in Black Panther, the husband of Danai Gurira's Okoye, who supported Killmonger as the new ruler of Wakanda instead of fighting to help T'Challa reclaim the throne. The actor did not return for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever due to scheduling conflicts with Jordan Peele's Nope. Kaluuya did not stay out of the superhero realm for long, though, with the actor playing Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's fan-favorite character, Spider-Punk. Kaluuya's Hobie Brown added a healthy dose of chaos to the animated film, with Spider-Punk stealing every scene he appeared in.
5 Oscar Isaac Oscar Isaac debuted in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse's post-credits scene as Miguel O'Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099. Before the actor returned to the animated Spider-Verse, Isaac led Marvel Studios' Moon Knight on Disney+. The MCU series was a brilliant display of Isaac's acting range, with the star playing three different characters in one — Steven Grant, Marc Spector, and Jake Lockley — due to Marc suffering from Dissociative identity disorder. Isaac then returned as Spider-Man 2099 in Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse, playing one of the movie's most important roles as the leader of the multiverse Spider-Man team, the Spider-Society. Isaac should return in the MCU and SSU in the near future.
4 J.K. Simmons J.K. Simmons' Marvel career started with the actor playing J. Jonah Jameson in Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, but it most certainly did not end there. The actor's role as the Daily Bugle's chief in the Spider-Man trilogy was such a success that it became hard for anyone else to play the role. Simmons has since returned to play the character in live-action and animation. The actor appeared as a multiverse variant of J. Jonah Jameson in the MCU through roles in Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Now, Simmons has appeared as JJJ in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, voicing Jameson in the LEGO reality and Gwen's universe.
3 Kathryn Hahn Completing the Spider-Verse and MCU connections on the list is Kathryn Hahn, who has played a villain in both universes. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse had many twists and turns, but the reveal that Hahn's character was actually called Olivia Octavius, the Doctor Octopus of her universe, might have been the biggest one. After her animated role in Sony's Spider-Man Universe, Hahn joined the MCU as Agatha Harkness, the breakout character of WandaVision. Agatha became a fan-favorite character in the MCU, which has resulted in Hahn getting her own MCU project, Disney+'s Agatha: Coven of Chaos series, which has yet to have a release date revealed.
2 Aaron Taylor-Johnson Aaron Taylor-Johnson had a short-lived run in the MCU, with the talented actor seeing his Quicksilver killed in Avengers: Age of Ultron, his first and only major MCU role. Even with Marvel Studios' Multiverse Saga, Taylor-Johnson has not returned to play Pietro Maximoff, with Marvel instead opting to bring in Fox X-Men franchise's Quicksilver actor, Evan Peters, as a fake version of the speedster in WandaVision. While his time in the MCU might be done, Taylor-Johnson will soon get to headline the Kraven the Hunter movie, which takes place in Sony's Spider-Man Universe. The film will be R-rated and released on October 6, 2023.
1 Russell Crowe Russell Crowe is set to join Taylor-Johnson in moving from the MCU to Kraven the Hunter. Crowe appeared as Zeus in Thor: Love and Thunder, with the character first being believed to be dead, but surviving his encounter with Chris Hemsworth's Thor, then sending his son, Brett Goldstein's Hercules, after the Asgardian in the first Thor: Love and Thunder post-credits scene. In Sony's Spider-Man Universe, Crowe will play Kraven's father, which in the comics is named Nikolai Kravinoff. With Crowe debuting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2022 and joining Sony's Spider-Man Universe in 2023, he might just be the fastest actor to do so.
