"It"s Such An Honor": Hayden Christensen Celebrates His Anakin Skywalker & Darth Vader Return In Ahsoka

Summary
  • Hayden Christensen expresses his honor and enjoyment in portraying both Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader again, highlighting the significance of wearing their costumes.
  • Despite the brief moments, Christensen's physical acting as Darth Vader captivates audiences and flawlessly transitions between Anakin and Vader, showcasing his dedication to the role.
  • Christensen diligently ensures that he accurately interprets George Lucas' vision of Anakin and Vader, capturing their emotional complexities and demonstrating that they are one and the same character.
Hayden Christensen spoke highly of the opportunity to portray both Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader again in Ahsoka. Anakin appeared to Ahsoka in the World Between Worlds, playing a massive role in "Part Five: Shadow Warrior" as he taught his apprentice one final lesson. This involved flipping a switch and presenting Anakin's dark side as Vader to Ahsoka, which included brief flashes of the Sith Lord in his iconic suit.
In quotes provided for the "Shadow Warrior" episode guide by Star Wars, Christensen revealed that he donned the Darth Vader armor for his brief moments in Ahsoka.
"Putting on the Anakin costume, getting to wear those Jedi robes, it's such an honor. And getting to put on the Darth Vader costume again, such an honor. It really imparts a feeling when you put those costumes on, and of course I'm very familiar with the character, and I really enjoy the headspace and the emotional space that I have to inhabit."
Christensen is no stranger to wearing both outfits, having worn them originally in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith in 2005 and again for 2022's Obi-Wan Kenobi. Getting to a place where an actor can portray a darker character can be a challenge, but Christensen has proven to excel at it through his interpretations of Anakin and Vader.
Christensen Inhabits Darth Vader Like No Other While the moments with Darth Vader are brief flashes, they're enough to rile up audiences and allow Christensen's physical acting to shine. He expertly portrayed Vader's movements outside the suit in Revenge of the Sith and Ahsoka, and the shots of Vader emerging in armor are a seamless blend. There's a clear throughline to the angsty Padawan introduced in the prequel trilogy and the vicious Sith Lord Anakin would become, a testament to Christensen's commitment to the role.
